Summary: The study demonstrated that the extract from Bouea macrophylla seed and its bioactive compound, pentagalloyl glucose, could suppress cancer stem cell-like phenotypes and increase radiosensitivity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell lines. Pretreatment with these compounds enhanced IR-induced DNA damage and radiation-induced cell death, while attenuating stemness-like properties. This suggests a potential novel strategy for improving therapeutic efficacy for head and neck cancer patients using natural products.

Summary: This study proposes a facile method for preparing silver nanoparticles using tea extract and evaluates its antimicrobial activity. The synthesized silver nanoparticles show good antibacterial effects on Escherichia coli and Pseudopestalotiopsis theae, broadening the application of nano silver in antimicrobial agents. The reactions between silver nanoparticles and bacteria/fungi may not be driven by electrostatic interactions, but rather by intermolecular forces.

Summary: The aqueous extract of Polygonum chinense L. has a significant bacteriostatic effect on Staphylococcus aureus and can destroy its cell wall as well as inhibit biofilm formation. Flow cytometry results show that the extract can disrupt the cell membrane and promote apoptosis. Confocal laser scanning microscopy images demonstrate the dose-dependent inhibition of biofilm formation by the extract.
