Summary: This article reports the preparation of mesoporous layered nanohybrids of zinc chromium layered double hydroxide (Zn-Cr-LDH) and polyoxotungstate (POW) anions via an exfoliation-reassembling process. The Zn-Cr-WO nanohybrids displayed the highest selectivity towards Cl-2 and showed fastest response and recovery times of 5 and 133 s, respectively, at room temperature.

Summary: The present study successfully designed a novel porous Zn/Fe LDH adsorbent using a combination of co-precipitation, hydrothermal, and thermal treatment methods. Intercalating H2O2 into LDH followed by thermal treatment created pores in the LDH layers, leading to increased surface area. The synthesized adsorbent showed a high adsorption capacity for the antibiotic ciprofloxacin, following Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, with C pi-metal interactions, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic interactions playing major roles.

Summary: Incorporating Mg or Zn into NiAl-LDH for reconstruction using a memory effect improved the catalytic activity and stability in the dry reforming of Biogas. The washing step significantly affected LDH reconstruction, with different metals influencing the properties of the materials. Ni-Zn alloy formation in Zn-reconstructed catalysts led to the best performance in methane and carbon dioxide conversion with a H-2/CO ratio of approximately 2.

Summary: A novel method was developed to fabricate a protective superhydrophobic LDH film on a Zn-Al alloyed surface of AZ31 Mg alloy. The film provided corrosion and mechanical protection for the substrate magnesium alloy, while additional modification allowed for changing the surface properties to super-hydrophobicity. Experimentally verified long-term anti-corrosion performance, super-hydrophobicity, wear resistance, chemical stability, and adhesion strength of the modified LDH film.

Summary: In this study, Zn-Al LDH precursor was successfully synthesized and demonstrated promising adsorption capacity for rare earth elements (REEs) recovery. The adsorbed REEs on Zn-Al LDH were hard to be desorbed, making it a potentially valuable adsorbent for practical application in REEs recovery.

Summary: This study found that ultrasonic treatment is a better method to retain the flavor of melon juice. It evaluated the retention effect of ultrasonic and ultra-high pressure on volatile components of melon juice using GC-MS and GC-IMS. The analysis of electronic nose, electronic tongue, and GC-IMS confirmed that ultrasonic treatment was superior to ultra-high pressure in containing the flavor of melon juice.

Summary: In this work, Bi2WO6/Zn-Al LDH heterostructures were successfully fabricated as highly effective photocatalysts using a facile two-step mechanochemical method. The composites showed greatly enhanced photocatalytic capacity compared to pristine Bi2WO6 and LDH. The energy band structure and transfer route for photogenerated charge carriers were discussed, providing insights into the reaction mechanism for the photocatalysis process.

Summary: The study successfully prepared two Zn-Al LDH@MPDA nanocomposites, namely Composite T and Composite A, with different linkers modifications. Composite T exhibited higher specific surface area and adsorption performance. Composite T showed promising performance in DOX loading and photothermal conversion, and also exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus.

Summary: Nitrate-loaded Zn/Al, Mg/Al, and Mg-Zn/Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were synthesized for slow-release of nitrate ions. Sodium alginate was used to encapsulate Mg/Al LDH to further slow down the release. The slow release properties of LDHs were evaluated in tap water, soil solution, and plant growth experiments. The LDHs were found to supply adequate nitrate to plants while maintaining availability over extended periods, and also demonstrated the ability to increase soil pH.

Summary: The volatile compounds of potato wine were analyzed using sensory omics techniques to understand its overall flavor characteristics and evaluate the effects of ultrasonic treatment and gamma irradiation therapy. The study identified 14 flavor compounds through GC-MS and determined isoamyl alcohol, ethyl octanoate, and 1,1-diethoxyethane as key aroma components through GC-O analysis. Additionally, 50 volatile substances were identified through GC-IMS. The alcohol content of the potato wine decreased while the esters content increased after irradiation and ultrasonic treatment. Sensory evaluation indicated improved fruity, Fen-flavor, and sweet notes, suggesting the theoretical support for the use of ultrasonic and irradiation therapy in potato wine and the overall aroma building of potato wine.

Summary: This study modified a zinc-aluminum layered double hydroxide conversion coating on galvanized steel with benzotriazole as an organic corrosion inhibitor. The changes in the modified coating were investigated through microstructural and elemental analysis as well as electrochemical experiments. Results showed that benzotriazole was partially intercalated into the layered double hydroxide structure, and the modified films exhibited a 4 times increase in impedance compared to the as-synthesized films.

Summary: Silicates affect zinc sorption on aluminum oxide surfaces, inhibiting the formation of Zn-Al LDH at high silicate concentrations. Significant zinc isotope fractionation was observed, indicating the presence of a zinc-silicon bonding environment. STEM analysis showed spatial coupling between sorbed silicates and gamma-Al2O3, suggesting the formation of Al-Si-Zn ternary inner-sphere complexes.

Summary: The evolution of microstructure in the MB8/2024 dissimilar alloy joints with Al/Zn/Cu/Zn multi-interlayers by ultrasonic-assisted brazing was studied. The addition of aluminum foil on the MB8 side resulted in the transformation of Al3Mg2 binary intermetallic compounds (IMCs) into AlMg4Zn11 ternary IMCs along the copper foil-MB8 magnesium alloy interface. This transformation enhanced the joints, with the shear strength reaching a maximum at 22 s (85.26 MPa). The cavitation effect in ultrasonic-assisted brazing led to the discovery of Mg32(Al,Zn)49 quasicrystal.

Summary: By directly growing Zn-Al LDH films on aluminum foams, the method successfully removed fluoride ions from water, achieving a maximum absorption efficiency of approximately 70% and reducing the fluoride concentration from 3 mg/L to below 1.1 mg/L. This simple and efficient method effectively addressed the issue of difficult separation of LDH powders.
