Phase equilibria in the Co-Fe-La system were studied using differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Liquidus and solidus projections and a melting diagram for this system over the whole concentration range and a Scheil diagram for solidification were constructed. The ternary compound (Co,Fe)(17)La-2 (tau) (Th2Zn17-type structure) forms by peritectic reaction L + (gamma Co,Fe) + Co13La reversible arrow tau at 978 degrees C. This ternary compound is located along the isoconcentrate of 11 at.% La and extends from 45.8 to 79.3 at.% Co. The Co13La phase has the widest homogeneity region and dissolves up to 43.3 at.% Fe. The solubilities of Fe in Co5La, Co7La2, Co19La5, and Co3La2 were established to be 10.3, 9.2, 4.7, and 3.2 at.%, respectively. The solubility of Fe in Co1.7La2 and CoLa3 according to EPMA does not exceed 1 at.%. The maximum solubility of La in (gamma Co,Fe) and (alpha Co,Fe) is determined to be less than 1 at.%.

Third-generation CALPHAD description of pure GeO2 at 1 atm

I Bajenova, A. Khvan, M. Derevyanko, N. Aristova, A. Dinsdale, A. Kondratiev, A. Pisch

Summary: The thermodynamic properties of crystalline and liquid/amorphous phases of germanium dioxide were evaluated using DFT calculations and CALPHAD models. The standard entropies of these phases were reassessed using the Planck-Einstein approach, leading to a more accurate representation of the thermodynamic properties of germanium dioxide.

Iron Recovery from Red Mud Using Carbothermic Roasting with Addition of Alkaline Salts

Pavel Grudinsky, Dmitry Zinoveev, Anfisa Yurtaeva, Alex Kondratiev, Valery Dyubanov, Alexander Petelin

Summary: This study investigated the carbothermic roasting of red mud followed by dry or wet magnetic separation with the addition of alkaline salts to enhance iron extraction. Sodium and potassium carbonates and sulfates were compared for their effects on iron recovery, and the influence of roasting temperature and additives on iron concentrate grade was studied. The addition of these salts during carbothermic roasting improved magnetic separation of metallic iron, as confirmed by the analysis of composition and microstructure of the separation products.

Phase Equilibria in the Ti-Zr-Sn System

I Fartushna, K. Meleshevich, A. Koval, I Tikhonova, J. C. Tedenac, M. Bulanova

Summary: This paper discusses the phase equilibria in the Ti-Zr-Sn system in the entirety of its composition and temperature range by utilizing experimental results and literature data. The solidus and liquidus projections are depicted, and an isothermal section at 1000 degrees C is described. The stability domains of intermetallic phases are refined, and the shape of the homogeneity range of (Ti,Zr)(5)Sn3+x is determined at different temperature intervals. Additionally, isopleths are constructed to determine the extension of the phase regions.

Mechanical and tribological behavior of Al composites containing varying beryllium aluminum silicate and constant CeO2

Vikas Verma, Ronaldo Camara Cozza, Vladimir Cheverikin, Alexander Kondratiev, Ramkumar Penchaliah

Summary: The study examined the performance of Al-Beryl composites with and without CeO2 in terms of mechanical, wear, and corrosive properties for structural applications. The addition of 0.5% CeO2 led to a significant improvement in corrosion resistance, while increasing the content of beryl particles reduced wear of the composite.

Experimental investigation of the phase equilibria in Co-Fe-Sm system with special attention to the effect of Fe substitution in structure and magnetic properties of intermetallic phases

I. Fartushna, I. Bajenova, J. Shakirova, A. Khvan, V. Cheverikin, E. Zanaeva, A. Kondratiev

Summary: The phase equilibria in the Sm-Co, Sm-Fe, and Co-Fe-Sm systems were investigated, and the corresponding phase diagrams were constructed. The Sm-rich region in the Sm-Fe system was discovered, and the stability domains of intermetallic phases were defined. Three continuous solid solutions were found in the Co-Fe-Sm system. The phase diagram of the Sm-Co system was revised, revealing wide homogeneity regions for the SmCo5 and Sm2Co7 phases and alternative four-phase equilibria. The magnetic properties of samples containing the Sm-2(Co,Fe)(12) phase were measured and compared to literature values.

Analysis of the effect of the liquid phase separation on the formation of microstructure in the Sn-Fe and Al-Fe-Sn alloys

I Fartushna, I Bajenova, A. Khvan, S. Shilundeni, V Cheverikin, M. Bulanova, A. Kondratiev

Summary: This paper for the first time defines the wide miscibility gap in the liquid phase in the Al-Fe-Sn system and investigates the evolution of the microstructure during solidification. The existence of Fe3Sn phase in the Sn-Fe system and the equilibrium participation of FeAl2 phase in the liquid phase in the ternary system were confirmed. The constructed projections and reaction scheme provide a comprehensive understanding of the Al-Fe-Sn system.

Prediction of the Rem-Fe-Co Phase Diagrams in Melting-Crystallization Region

Iu Fartushna, M. Bulanova

Summary: The crystal structures and phase diagrams of various REM-Fe, REM-Co, and Fe-Co-REM systems were analyzed, allowing for predictions about the interactions and reliability of existing data. The phase diagrams of REM-Fe and REM-Co systems were divided into different types based on their characteristics. Linear correlations of temperatures and enthalpies were used to estimate values of unstudied systems. Based on these findings, solidus and liquidus projections were proposed for the ternary systems.
