An activatable split aptamer probe with target-induced shape change and thermosensitivity was developed. Triggered by proteins on the cell surface, the probe could assemble into a desired binding shape, thus affording a FRET-based tumor cell assay. Moreover, a reversible cell catch/release strategy was realized through mild temperature switching (4 degrees C/37 degrees C).
