Summary: The study reviewed the diagnostic features of beta-thalassaemia patients through extensive research on clinical cases, radiological and microscopic analyses. A new evaluation tool (Eva-BeTa) was developed and tested on archaeological cases, suggesting its validity as a diagnostic tool for identifying ancient individuals potentially affected by beta-thalassemia.

Summary: This research examines the paleopathological profile of Neolithic populations in Western Switzerland, revealing patterns of health, disease, and socio-economic functioning. The study highlights the influence of geographical, biological, and chronological factors on pathology distribution, showcasing varied health conditions across different sites and age groups. Not only providing insights into the individual and collective health narratives of these populations, the data also sheds light on the persistent presence of diseases like tuberculosis and its consequences during the Neolithic period.

Summary: This article presents epidemiological data on primary bone tumors in Jordan, showing that they are relatively uncommon and mostly affecting young adults. Multiple myeloma and osteochondroma are common pathologies, with giant cell tumors more common in females, and osteochondroma and chondrosarcoma more common in males. Multiple myeloma tends to develop in the elderly, while other tumors like juvenile ossifying fibroma and Ewing sarcoma have age-specific occurrences. Recurrence is common in giant cell tumors and osteoid osteoma.

Summary: In 2022, a scientific examination was conducted on the heart of Blessed Pauline Jaricot, a French missionary figure. By combining metaproteomics and high-resolution microtomography imaging, researchers obtained a dataset of 6731 high-resolution MS/MS spectra, of which 968 could be assigned to specific peptidic biomolecules. The identified peptide sequences revealed the presence of 5 phyla among eukaryota (comprising 94% of the biomass), including Ascomycota (55%) and Chordata (42%). Bacteria represented only 6% of the biomass and no traces of embalming substance or pathogens were found.

Summary: The facial nerve, a mixed nerve, has sensory and motor fibers, with its main branch located in the cerebellopontine angle. Facial nerve dysfunction can occur in skullbase tumors and Bell's palsy, with recovery outcomes varying between the two. Recent advances in MRI technology have allowed for better visualization of the facial nerve in the presence of large tumors.

Summary: This article presents a case of calcified bursitis in the subcutaneous superficial fascial layer, initially diagnosed through imaging, but later revealed to be extraosseous osteochondroma based on postoperative pathological examination. Extraosseous osteochondroma is uncommon and prone to misdiagnosis due to its low incidence.

Summary: Solitary osteochondromas and diaphyseal aclasis are common bone disorders, with the former being a benign bone tumor and the latter a genetic condition. Both can lead to a variety of complications, including skeletal deformities, neurological and vascular issues, and even malignant transformation.

Summary: Osteochondroma is a bone outgrowth covered by cartilaginous tissue and localized on the external surface of the bone. This study aimed to determine the association between imaging diagnostic accuracy and histopathological examinations in diagnosing osteochondroma. A total of 56 patients with positive histopathological diagnosis were included in the study.

Summary: The researchers conducted direct morphological studies on the canid coxofemoral joint, focusing on postnatal developmental gross anatomy of the proximocaudal femur among juvenile canids. By identifying candidate juvenile specimens from different taxa, they found developmental conservation across ancient and modern Canidae, indicating natural population variability. The study contributes to understanding biological differences and developmental patterns among different groups of canids.

Summary: Due to advancements in ultrasound techniques, the focus of antenatal ultrasound screening is shifting towards the first trimester of pregnancy. However, the early first trimester remains a challenging area due to limitations in scanning techniques. It is important to obtain images of early anatomical development to enhance our understanding in this field. New imaging techniques can provide better images for studying early embryonic development and also be used in training and education.

Summary: Diagnosing spinal pain due to facet joint disease is challenging due to nonspecific clinical history and examination findings. Causes include osteoarthritis, synovial cysts, and septic arthritis. Evaluation with radiography, CT, or MRI is crucial for accurate diagnosis and monitoring. Traumatic dislocations may require surgical intervention, while facet joint neoplasms benefit from further evaluation with CT or MRI.
