Summary: In this study, an optogenetic approach was used to activate UCP1-dependent thermogenesis in brown adipocytes. This system allows for precise, chemical free, temporal control of UCP1-dependent thermogenesis, which can contribute to our understanding of brown adipocyte biology and the development of therapies for obesity-related disorders.

Summary: The study revealed that low-dose LPS can directly induce thermogenesis of brown adipocytes, and miR-143 may play a key role in regulating thermogenesis in brown adipocytes, with its absence enhancing LPS-induced increase in body temperature and BAT thermogenesis. The findings suggest a potential important function of miR-143 in inflammatory BAT thermogenesis.

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with reduced postprandial thermogenesis and abnormalities in adipose tissue function, with excess androgen inhibiting brown adipogenesis, attenuating thermogenic activation, and reducing mitochondrial respiration in brown adipose tissue (BAT). These findings may contribute to the reduced postprandial thermogenesis and increased tendency to obesity observed in women with PCOS.

Summary: This study reveals that brown adipogenesis during postnatal white-to-brown conversion of adipose tissue in Syrian hamsters is regulated by secretory factors from adipocytes and stromal cells. Adipocyte-secreted factors suppress brown adipogenesis, while stromal cell-secreted factors promote brown adipogenesis.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of vitamin E on inflammation and thermogenesis dysfunction in brown adipocytes. The results demonstrated that alpha-tocopherol and delta-tocopherol could suppress the decrease in UCP1 and PGC-1 alpha expression caused by inflammatory stimulation, reduce lipid accumulation, and inhibit ERK1/2 gene expression induction. In a high-fat diet mouse model, intake of alpha-tocopherol and delta-tocopherol significantly suppressed weight gain and hypertrophy of brown adipocytes.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the synergistic effects and mechanisms of Mori Folium (Morus alba leaf) and Mori Cortex Radicis (Morus alba root cortex) in the treatment of obesity. The results showed that a combination of MF and MR enhanced the expression of brown adipocyte-specific genes and regulated adipocytic dysmetabolism. In vivo experiments confirmed that MF/MR supplementation significantly inhibited weight gain, reduced plasma cholesterol, and improved adipocyte morphology.

Summary: This study evaluated the functional interaction between vitamin C and capsaicin on myogenesis, and found that vitamin C may enhance myogenesis by alleviating oxidative stress in capsaicin-pretreated cells. The results suggest that vitamin C is a potential stimulator of myogenesis in cells, depending on the cell context.

Summary: The study demonstrates that vitamin C and mild endoplasmic reticulum stress synergistically enhance myogenesis. Inhibition of MEK1/2 activity increases the expression of myogenesis-related genes, and combination treatment with vitamin C further enhances myogenesis, increasing the number of myotubes and the expression of myosin heavy chain. In addition, inhibition of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase reduces the effect of vitamin C on myogenesis.

Summary: This study evaluated the expression levels of the Ucp1 gene in the muscle tissue of Japanese Black beef and found higher levels in 30-month-old cattle. The expression levels of Myh1, a gene predominantly expressed in fast-twitch muscles, were also significantly higher in cattle aged 30 months. The results indicate the possibility of Ucp1 expression in fast-twitch muscle fibers.
