Summary: This study found that high expression of Growth-related oncogene alpha (Groα), NOD1, and RIPK2 is correlated with survival rate in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Groα induces the expression of TNF-α and COX-2 through regulation involving ERK, JNK, and p38 MAPK signaling pathways. These findings reveal the association of Groα, NOD1, and RIPK2 biomarkers with HNSCC carcinogenesis.

Summary: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a common malignant tumor in the head and neck region, often detected late with poor prognosis and survival rate. The growth-related oncogene alpha (Gro alpha) is highly expressed in SCC and associated with tumor metastasis and invasion. This study shows that Gro alpha promotes epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression in HNSCC through activation of CXCR1/2, suggesting that Gro alpha may play a role in mediating metastasis.

Summary: The study reveals that F. nucleatum infection leads to increased expression of ANGPTL4 in colorectal cancer cells, promoting glucose uptake and glycolysis activity essential for colonization. Furthermore, increased acetylation of histone H3 lysine 27 is observed in F. nucleatum-infected cells and patient tumors, contributing to the transcriptional upregulation of ANGPTIA. This metabolic reprogramming induced by F. nucleaturn is crucial for its persistence in colorectal cancer and may serve as a potential target for clinical intervention.

Summary: Arginase-1 plays an important role in the clinicopathology and prognosis of head and neck cancer. High tumor Arginase-1 levels are associated with favorable clinicopathology and prognosis, while high plasma Arginase-1 levels are associated with unfavorable clinicopathology. The presence of Arginase-1 in exosomes explains this discrepancy. High levels of exosomal Arginase-1 are associated with lymph node metastasis and shorter recurrence-free survival.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity, with a high mortality rate due to late diagnosis and lack of effective targeted treatments. Identification of potential prognostic biomarkers and understanding the role of p63 in OSCC could lead to improved therapies and patient outcomes. In this study, a mouse model was used to investigate the oncogenic role of p63 and generate a p63-driven gene expression signature that may have implications for human OSCC.

Summary: Metastasis is a critical step in carcinogenesis, and most cancer-related deaths are caused by metastatic disease that is resistant to current therapies. Akt, a central signalling molecule of the PI3K-Akt pathway, plays an important role in cell migration and invasion. This review focuses on the role of Akt in regulating these processes and the status of PI3K-Akt pathway inhibitors in clinical trials for metastatic cancers.

Summary: This study reveals the correlation between RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), specifically nucleolin (NCL) and heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A2/B1 (hnRNPA2B1), and the mesenchymal phenotype of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The RBPs regulate fibronectin, an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) marker, through the ERK and NF-κB pathway, enhancing tumor cell metastasis. The RBPs/fibronectin axis plays a crucial role in EGF-induced tumor-endothelial cell interactions and HNSCC metastasis.

Summary: This study reveals the important role of lysine methyltransferase 2B (KMT2B) in cervical cancer (CC). Increased KMT2B expression is found in CC specimens and is significantly associated with poor prognosis. KMT2B promotes CC metastasis and angiogenesis by upregulating the expression of epidermal growth factor (EGF). Therefore, KMT2B may serve as a potential therapeutic target for CC.

Summary: Research has found that human papillomavirus (HPV +) positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) has a higher risk of lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis. The overexpression of lncRNA SELL is significantly associated with lymph node metastasis in HPV+ HNSCC. LncRNA SELL functions as a promigratory and proinvasive mediator and induces M1-like tumor-associated macrophages (TAM) by increasing the level of L-selectin. Fucoidan, an L-selectin inhibitor, can weaken tongue lesions induced by 4-Nitroquinoline N-oxide (4-NQO) in HPV16 E6/E7 transgenic mice. This study highlights the important role of lncRNA SELL/L-selectin in promoting HPV+ HNSCC progression and proposes a potential fucoidan-mediated therapeutic strategy.

Summary: This study reveals the oncogenic role and potential mechanism of IGF2BP2 in HNSCC, demonstrating that IGF2BP2 affects lymphatic metastasis and EMT process through the regulation of m6A modification. This suggests that IGF2BP2 may serve as a therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker for HNSCC patients with metastasis.

Summary: In the tumor microenvironment, cancer cells activate Cancer Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) to increase their secretion of soluble factors, which contribute to tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and dissemination. STAT3 and IL-6, as key factors, work together to maintain high levels of IL-6 secretion and STAT3 activation. The study demonstrated the essential role of STAT3 in the pro-tumorigenic functions of murine breast cancer CAFs, and identified a STAT3 signature enriched for genes encoding secreted proteins.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution, characteristics, sources, and risks of microplastics in irrigation water in Taiwan. The results showed that microplastics were widely and unevenly distributed along the irrigation system, with higher concentrations in densely populated areas and areas with runoff input. Principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis revealed the impact of rainy seasons and typhoons on the population densities. The study also calculated the polymer risk index and found a high microplastic risk throughout the year except in November and January. This research provides valuable insights for understanding and managing microplastics in irrigation water.

Summary: This study aimed to identify a predictable index, associated with cardiac function, for postoperative metastasis (POM) in lung adenocarcinoma. Results showed that mitral valve peak A velocity, affected by BMI, was associated with a negative factor for POM and a low 5-year disease-free survival rate. This pilot study suggests a potential association between diastole, BMI, and POM in early-stage lung adenocarcinoma.

Summary: This study evaluated long-term outcomes of symptomatic Rathke's cleft cysts treated with endoscopic endonasal approach based on different categorizations. The results showed that this approach significantly improved visual field deficit and hyperprolactinemia, but had a high incidence of post-operative Diabetes insipidus, which was usually temporary. Different categorizations were not correlated with recurrence rate, but could help predict the status of hormone deficit.
