Summary: Studies have shown varying effects of antidepressant drugs on lipid profiles in patients with major depression disorder (MDD). This study examined the effects of switching antidepressant medication on lipid markers in MDD patients. The findings revealed a decrease in HDL, LDL, and total cholesterol two weeks after switching medication, highlighting the importance of considering these changes in treatment strategies for MDD patients.

Summary: This study found an association between atherogenic dyslipidaemia and cardiac adipose tissue parameters, particularly an increased volume of epicardial adipose tissue, in patients with coronary artery disease. Atherogenic index of plasma was also associated with type II diabetes, male sex, and coronary artery calcification. These findings suggest that atherogenic dyslipidaemia may contribute to adverse changes in adipose tissue, increasing the risk of coronary artery disease.

Summary: This systematic review examines the associations between perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and lipid concentrations in human populations. The results suggest that PFAS exposure is associated with higher levels of LDL, HDL, and TC, while the association with TG tends to be negative. Additionally, the study indicates a positive relationship between PFAS concentrations and cholesterol-related health outcomes. Further research is needed to investigate the effects of less-studied PFAS on human health.

Summary: A comprehensive analysis of circulating metabolites in large prospective population-based settings identified associations of amino acids, glycolysis-related metabolites, acute-phase reaction markers, and several lipoprotein subfractions with the risk of stroke. These findings suggest the potential of metabolomics in uncovering metabolic changes preceding stroke.

Summary: Dyslipidemia is linked to endothelial dysfunction leading to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular complications. Breaking the progression from endothelial dysfunction to cardiovascular complications is clinically important in dyslipidemia patients. Lipid-lowering therapy improves endothelial function in dyslipidemia patients. The relationships of components of a lipid profile with endothelial function, such as LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, are complex. This review focuses on exploring their roles.

Summary: The study found that elevated total cholesterol, LDL-c, and non-HDL-c were related to the incidence of hypertension in Chinese adult males. Triglycerides, however, were not significantly associated. After adjusting for BMI, the relationship between HDL-c and hypertension shifted from no association to a positive correlation. The BN model showed that age, BMI, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and total cholesterol were strongly associated with hypertension incidence.

Summary: This study explored the impact of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) on the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD), and found that PCOS status did not increase the risk of silent coronary artery disease (CAD). However, women with a history of silent CAD had a higher incidence of CVD events. PCOS status independently reduced the incidence of CVD, regardless of silent CAD or traditional risk factors.

Summary: This study reviewed 49 publications on the association between nutrition and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Iranian women. The pooled analyses showed that GDM women had lower serum vitamin D levels and higher serum iron, ferritin, and hemoglobin levels compared to non-GDM women. Some dietary patterns were found to be associated with the odds of GDM. Vitamin D supplementation early in pregnancy may help prevent GDM, but there is insufficient evidence to recommend a specific dietary pattern for GDM prevention in Iranian women.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the upper reference limit of prolactin (PRL) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The results showed that in PCOS women under the age of 35, the upper reference limit of serum PRL was approximately 1.5-fold higher than in controls. The elevation of PRL in PCOS might be attributed to a decline in central dopaminergic tone associated with PCOS, leading to an increase in levels of both PRL and luteinizing hormone (LH).
