Summary: Metal-organic frameworks [M-2(2-I-bdc)(2)bpe] (M = Zn(II) (1), Co(II) (2), 2-I-bdc = 2-iodoterephtalic acid, and bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane) were prepared and characterized by X-ray diffractometry. Both compounds retained their 3D structure after the removal of guest DMF molecules. Selectivity of sorption of different organic substrates from the gas phase was investigated for both complexes.

Summary: A novel co-polymerization strategy using both BTESE and BTESM precursors was proposed to improve the gas permselectivity of BTESE-derived membranes. The membrane with a molar ratio of BTESE:BTESM = 3:7 exhibited the highest H-2/CO2 and H-2/N-2 permselectivity while maintaining relatively high H-2 permeance. This study provides insights into the preparation of co-polymerization organosilica membranes with excellent gas separation performance.

Summary: New Zn(II) and Cd(II) coordination polymers were synthesized using a novel ligand and naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid, displaying 2D and 3D structures. Both complexes exhibited luminescent properties, with complex 2 showing high sensitivity towards Fe3+ ions. The quenching effect is likely due to interactions between metal ions and amide carbonyl oxygen atoms.

Summary: NiCl2(dppe) is an organic compound with high-quality single crystals grown by slow evaporation of organic solution. The magnetization results show an anisotropic paramagnetism behavior and a diamagnetic background from Ni2+ ions and benzene ring. However, no expected field-induced quantum phase transition was observed in NiCl2(dppe) single crystals.

Summary: The designing and synthesis of luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) as sensors for molecule and ion detection is an active area of research. This study successfully synthesized four different three-dimensional (3D) LMOFs and analyzed their structures and optical properties. The experimental results showed that these LMOFs can be used as luminescent sensors for detecting metal ions, oxyanions, and organic solvents in an aqueous environment.

Summary: Oxidative modifications of proteins play a crucial role in biotechnology, and metal-catalyzed oxidation reactions have low selectivity. However, the use of discrete inorganic ligands such as polyoxometalates enables efficient and selective protein oxidative cleavage by directing the reaction to specific sites on the protein surface.

Summary: Dimethyl 6-(pyrazine-2-yl)pyridine-3,4-dicarboxylate (py-2pz) was used as a ligand to synthesize new copper(II) and silver(I) complexes. The structures of the complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, revealing the bidentate coordination mode of py-2pz to the metal ions. Silver(I) complexes showed good antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. The binding affinity of the complexes with DNA and protein was studied to understand their antimicrobial mechanism. The copper(II) complexes exhibited biomimetic catalytic activity.

Summary: The development of artificial proteases that can maintain their activity in the presence of surfactants is crucial for studying proteins, as natural proteases only work under specific conditions. This study focuses on the hydrolysis of horse heart myoglobin using a specific artificial protease and different surfactants. The results show that the hydrolytic efficiency of the artificial protease increases in the presence of surfactants, but the fragmentation pattern varies depending on the surfactant used. A multitechnique approach was used to gain a better understanding of the protease activity. A general model for protein/surfactant/POM ternary nanoassemblies was proposed based on the findings.

Summary: This Perspective discusses the reactivity of polyoxometalates (POMs), a family of soluble anionic metal-oxo nanoclusters, towards proteins. POMs serve as catalysts in various reactions and have potential therapeutic applications. However, the lack of detailed understanding of the reaction mechanisms, especially with complex biological systems like proteins, hinders further developments. The reactions of POMs with peptides and proteins are highlighted to provide a molecular-level understanding of the reaction mechanism.

Summary: In this study, two isostructural ferrocene complexes were synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities. Complex 1 showed moderate activity against Candida strains and higher cytotoxicity compared to complex 2. Both complexes had no effect on the survival rate of C. elegans. Complex 2 inhibited filamentation of C. albicans, while complex 1 was more effective in inhibiting biofilm formation. Additionally, the binding affinity of the complexes with DNA and protein was studied.
