Summary: This study compared the effects of different concentrations of HS additives in aquafeed on various parameters in African catfish. The results showed no significant differences between the tested groups. However, the use of HS had a positive effect on antioxidant status and reduced the presence of pathogenic microorganisms in aquatic environments.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of tramadol on C. gariepinus juveniles, finding that exposure led to abnormal behavior, increased mortality, changes in hematological parameters and oxidative stress responses. The results suggest that tramadol is toxic to fish and its use in aquatic environments should be monitored.

Summary: Sustainable aqua feeds are essential for the future development of the aquaculture sector, especially considering limited mineral supply from animal-based sources. This study evaluated the effects of chromium DL-methionine supplementation in the nutrition of African catfish. The results showed that supplementation with 0.2 mg Cr kg(-1) and 0.4 mg Cr kg(-1) significantly increased the specific growth rate of the fish, suggesting that organic chromium supplementation is a viable and safe way to improve the growth performance of African catfish.

Summary: The dietary effect of onion peel powder (OPP) on growth, blood chemistry, hepatic antioxidant enzymes activities and SOD mRNA responses of Clarias gariepinus was evaluated in this study. The results showed that OPP supplemented diet improved growth, nutrient utilization, haematology, biochemical parameters and antioxidant enzymes activities in C. gariepinus.

Summary: This study evaluated the antibacterial efficacy of silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) against A. veronii infection in both in-vitro and in-vivo experiments. Results showed that SiNPs have antibacterial activity against A. veronii and can reduce mortality, improve hematological indices, modulate immune and antioxidant parameters, and result in gene up-regulation. Therefore, SiNPs play an important role in sustainable aquaculture production.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of Plukenetia conophora seed (PCS) on the growth performance, blood chemistry, hepatic antioxidant status, fillet fatty acids, and physicochemical properties of Clarias gariepinus. The results showed that including PCS in the diet increased the growth rate and specific growth rate of C. gariepinus, while also improving the antioxidant status and fatty acid composition of the fish fillet.

Summary: The study revealed a strong correlation between high summer water temperature and parasites infection in Clarias gariepinus. Parasites have a significant impact on the hematological and biochemical parameters of infected catfish, with noticeable tissue damage observed through histopathological examination. The seasonal variations in all variables suggest that parasites exert a strong influence on the host fish.

Summary: The purple passion fruit has a rich and wrinkled purple peel when ripe. This study evaluated the phenolic and alkaloid profile, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity of the pulp, peel, and seed of purple passion fruit at different ripening stages. The results showed that the seed had higher phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity compared to the peel and pulp. The findings suggest the potential health benefits of consuming the fruit pulp, as well as the biotechnological use of the peel and seed in industries and research centers.
