Summary: Autophagy is a controversial issue in leishmaniasis and has the potential to be an effective therapeutic approach. However, the research on the impact of autophagy regulation on Leishmania survival is inconclusive, despite evidence of autophagy being triggered by Leishmania spp. in different cell types. The mechanistic understanding of autophagy in the Leishmania parasite and its role in both the parasite and the host is still limited.

Summary: Spinal cord injury often leads to osteoporosis, increasing the risk of osteoporotic fractures. This study identified a microRNA, miR-148a-3p, which is associated with osteoporosis following spinal cord injury. MiR-148a-3p was upregulated in acute SCI patients and negatively correlated with bone marrow adiposity. The findings suggest that miR-148a-3p may play a mediating role in osteoporosis following spinal cord injury and could be a potential therapeutic target.

Summary: In recent decades, the advancement of high-throughput approaches in cancer biology and medicine has led to the development of targeted therapies and immunotherapies for different cancers. The availability of diverse high-throughput omics data has revealed the complex nature of cancer as a system of microenvironments, sub-clonal tumor populations, and various cell types, impacting the genetic and non-genetic mechanisms involved in the disease. Taking a systems approach to cancer biology has been essential in understanding tumor initiation, progression, and drug resistance. Integrating clinical medicine with basic sciences has revolutionized the development and approval of cancer therapeutic drugs including tyrosine kinase inhibitors, antibody-drug conjugates, and immunotherapy. By further improving the 'Team Medicine' approach within the cancer systems biology framework, through the development of high-throughput clinical trial models utilizing machine learning and rapid sample processing, personalized medicine can advance more rapidly, overcoming limitations in drug development and testing.

Summary: Adipose tissue in obese individuals develops lipids, aberrant adipokines, chemokines, and pro-inflammatory cytokines, leading to low-grade systemic inflammation. This inflammation can result in insulin resistance and metabolic complications like type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The role of CXC chemokines and chemokine receptors in the development of obesity-related metabolic diseases is still unclear. This review aims to provide an update on the connection between CXC chemokines, obesity, and obesity-related metabolic diseases, exploring their migratory potential, immunomodulatory effects, and potential as a therapeutic predictor.
