Summary: In this study, lightweight and anisotropic PI/CNF composite aerogels with excellent thermal insulation and flame retardancy were successfully prepared using unidirectional drying and freeze drying methods. The composite aerogels exhibited a tube-like structure along the axial direction and a honeycomb-like pore structure along the radial direction, resulting in superior mechanical and elastic properties. The addition of CNF reduced the thermal conductivity of the composite aerogels. The composite aerogels also showed significant temperature reduction and flame retardant performance, making them promising for potential applications in the aerospace industry.

Summary: Six different types of polyamic acids were synthesized and corresponding polyimide films were prepared. The diamine monomers used for synthesis of CPI had specific structures, such as bent meta-structure or para-linear chain with ether bonds or substituents. The thermal and mechanical properties, optical transparency, and solubility of the CPI films were investigated, with emphasis on the correlation with the monomer structures.

Summary: Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are used as a bio-based carbon source in an intumescent system. However, CNCs have low thermal stability and adverse impact on performance. By designing phosphazene-containing CNCs (PIN-CNCs), thermal stability and charring ability are improved. PLA composites with PIN-CNCs and flame retardants show enhanced flame retardancy and mechanical properties.
