Summary: This study compared PTSD symptoms between Hui and Han child survivors of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in China. Results showed that Hui children had higher severity of PTSD symptoms, especially in avoidance/numbness and arousal, compared to Han children. Ethnicity was found to be associated with PTSD symptoms after adjusting for various factors.

Summary: Two recent surveys in the U.K. police force reported significantly different prevalence rates for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with methodological factors being the main cause of the discrepancy. Analysis of the data indicated that the difference in prevalence rates was likely due to methodological differences rather than real variations in PTSD prevalence within the police force.

Summary: This study determined the prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder among U.S. nurses and found the association between severity of symptoms and their roles. Traumatic experiences impact nurses' mental health and job performance negatively, with coping skills and environmental/organizational changes being key in alleviating the negative impact.

Summary: Recent expansions in women's roles in combat have sparked interest in the psychological effects of combat exposure on female service members. This study found that women had higher rates of PTSD diagnosis incidence and prevalence, while men had higher persistence. Gender differences were more pronounced among combat-exposed soldiers, with men showing greater persistence of PTSD diagnosis, particularly when exposed to combat. These findings suggest implications for policy changes and prevention strategies.

Summary: This study examined the impact of discriminatory stress on changes in PTSD symptom severity among White, Black, and Hispanic/Latino/a/x veterans, with a focus on the interactions among race/ethnicity, gender, and discriminatory stress. The findings suggest that discriminatory stress affects PTSD severity differently for various ethnoracial/gender groups, with a stronger relationship observed in Black women.

Summary: This study examined the associations between CMD prevalence and sociodemographic indices, premigration traumatic events (TEs), postmigration living difficulties (PMLDs), and psychosocial disruptions in Rohingya, Chin, and Kachin refugees from Myanmar relocated to Malaysia. The results showed that factors specific to each ethnic group and differences in exposure to TEs, PMLDs, and psychosocial disruptions explained the differences in CMD prevalence rates across these three groups.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the associations of military-related traumatic brain injury (TBI) with suicide and new-onset mental health conditions. The findings showed that soldiers with a history of TBI had higher rates of new-onset mental health conditions and were at greater risk of suicide. These results highlight the need for increased efforts to address the cumulative risk associated with multiple military-related exposures.

Summary: This study examined the moderating role of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the relationship between traumatic exposure (TE) and academic performance (AP), and explored whether this moderating role is influenced by gender. The results showed that PTSD moderated the connection between TE and AP, and this moderation effect differed between genders.

Summary: This study describes the implementation of trauma-informed care principles in a student-run asylum clinic, highlighting the importance of these principles in supporting individuals seeking asylum during forensic medical evaluations. The clinic completed 160 evaluations over a three-year period, with positive feedback from participants. Future research should focus on assessing secondary trauma and resilience within these clinics.

Summary: This study found that first responders are likely to develop anxiety disorders after a terrorist attack. Factors such as barriers to social support, perceived level of exposure, and a lack of psychological support resources are associated with anxiety disorders in both the medium and long terms. Promoting stronger social cohesion and providing more psychological support resources can help prevent anxiety disorders in this population.

Summary: This study examines how traumatic events (TEs) should be defined and their specificity for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in a general mental health care population. It found that non-PTSD disorders had a high prevalence of TEs, with female patients, previous mental health care, and the likelihood of being diagnosed with PTSD being associated with more severe trauma definitions. Reexperiencing symptoms were particularly common among mood disorders.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the understanding of influenza-associated hospitalisation estimates by conducting a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of studies published between 1995 and 2020. The results showed significant variations in hospitalisation rates by age, with higher rates observed in children aged 0-4 years and the elderly aged >65 years. The study highlights the need for further analysis of other factors and harmonization of methods.

Summary: The FluCov project, covering 22 countries, was initiated to monitor the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on influenza activity. The survey results show the profound impact of SARS-CoV-2 on national influenza surveillance in the first 27 months of the pandemic. Most NICs were able to increase their laboratory testing capacity and the robustness of their surveillance systems, and anticipate the integration of SARS-CoV-2 surveillance into the existing respiratory surveillance system.

Summary: The field of traumatic stress is marked by controversy and lack of continuity. Throughout history, there have been disputes about the psychological consequences and causes of severe adverse events. A review of historical literature shows that psychotrauma has always been a subject of controversy, with significant heterogeneity in symptom expression and varying definitions of conditions. The causes of trauma have also been debated, such as biological, psychological, socio-economic, cultural, political, or legal factors. A more flexible diagnostic approach is proposed to account for the ongoing variation in symptomatology.
