Summary: Microsurgery has become standard care for complex techniques, and robotic assistance has potential for extreme motion scaling and tremor reduction. The Symani Surgical System was used to successfully complete a robot-assisted microsurgical free flap reconstruction, demonstrating feasibility for anastomosis of small vessels. The system has the potential to open up new opportunities in microsurgery.

Summary: Innovative techniques can overcome the limitations of the human body in microsurgery. High-definition 3D cameras can replace conventional operation microscopes to improve ergonomics for surgeons, while a dedicated robot for microsurgery can enhance the precision and stability of their hands. The integration of both technologies has been demonstrated in the first-in-human case of reconstructive microsurgery.

Summary: Technical advances in microsurgery have enabled complex oncological reconstructions, but manual abilities can be affected by human fatigue and tremor. Robotic assistance has the potential to overcome these issues and improve clinical outcomes. This in-vivo preclinical study using a rat model found that robotic and manual techniques for anastomoses were equivalent in terms of vessel patency, but robotic anastomosis had a longer execution time and slightly decreased tissue damage according to histological analysis.

Summary: In this study comparing negative pressure massage treatment (NPMT) with manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) in women with chronic breast cancer-related lymphedema, NPMT demonstrated greater improvements in lymphedema index and limb volume compared to MLD. However, differences in Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire scores were not statistically significant.

Summary: Oral sildenafil treatment may have potential therapeutic effects in COVID-19 patients regarding the need for invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in specific perfusion patterns observed in sCTA. However, there were no significant differences in oxygenation parameters. Larger-scale studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The demands for microsurgical techniques in peripheral nerve surgery are increasing as multiple simultaneous selective nerve transfers are used, including the transposition of very small nerves and single fascicles. Robot technology, the Symani Surgical System (Medical Microinstruments, S.p.A, Calci, Pisa, Italy), was successfully used for microsurgical coaptation of very small nerve structures, providing precise and accurate sutures. This new microsurgical robotic system opens possibilities for finer and more complex nerve transfers in difficult-to-reach anatomical regions.

Summary: The microsurgical demands in peripheral nerve surgery are increasing, requiring high skills in microsurgical techniques. Robot technology, combined with a high-magnification 3D-exoscope, allows for successful coaptation of very small nerve structures. This opens new possibilities for carrying out finer and more complex nerve transfers, even in difficult-to-reach anatomical regions.

Summary: The study evaluates the effectiveness of 448 kHz monopolar capacitive resistive radiofrequency (MCRR) in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in females. The results show that the combination of MCRR therapy and pelvic floor exercises significantly reduces symptom frequency, improves pelvic floor muscle strength, and has better effects compared to placebo treatment.

Summary: This pilot trial aimed to test the feasibility of treating home versus predialysis blood pressure in hemodialysis patients. The study demonstrated high adherence to home blood pressure measurement and treatment, but also showed some adverse reactions such as increased frequency of fatigue in the home blood pressure arm. Further larger trials should be conducted to assess the long-term feasibility, efficacy, and safety of home blood pressure treatment in hemodialysis patients.

Summary: Robotic microsurgery is a novel technology for microsurgical free flap transplantation, and its potential benefits and drawbacks need to be evaluated for broader future application. In this first free flap series using a robotic system, a total of 23 flaps were performed with the system, showing the feasibility of robot-assisted anastomoses in different clinical conditions and subspecialties.

Summary: Research trials exploring lymphedema risk-reduction strategies in women with gynecological cancer are feasible but challenging. A tailored intervention of compression and exercise is safe and feasible in this population, and may delay the onset of lymphedema. Further research is needed to determine the role of these strategies in reducing the risk of lymphedema for women with gynecological cancer.

Summary: This Dutch registry study identified risk factors for rebubbling and early graft failure in DMEK. Rebubbling was associated with higher graft failure, while older recipient age and surgical complications were risk factors for rebubbling. Early graft failure risk factors included transplantation before 2016 and surgical complications. Rebubbling was also associated with significantly lower endothelial cell densities.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate donor site satisfaction following autologous fat transfer (AFT) for total breast reconstruction in breast cancer patients. The results showed no significant difference in body satisfaction between AFT and implant-based reconstruction, indicating that large-volume liposuction does not aesthetically affect the utilized donor sites. However, reconstructive surgeons should be aware of possible donor site complications, especially contour irregularities at the thighs, and discuss this with their patients.

Summary: University students often engage in prolonged sitting, which negatively affects their cognition and mood. Light-intensity physical activity (LIPA) breaks may improve attention and executive functioning. However, interrupting sitting with LIPA did not have significant acute effects on attention, response inhibition, working memory updating, or mood.

Summary: In general, total breast reconstruction with autologous fat transfer has a low complication rate. However, infections remain a common complication. This case report presents a severe bilateral breast infection following the surgery, which was successfully treated with surgery and antibiotics. Early surgical prophylaxis and antibiotic treatment can reduce the incidence of breast infections, and identifying and managing infection risks can be improved through monitoring the fit of devices and implementing video consultations.

Summary: Understanding the health effects of scaled-up school-based interventions is crucial for integrating health in schools. This study examined the effectiveness of the Healthy Primary School of the Future (HPSF) initiative in real-world settings. Due to COVID-19 limitations, implementation of HPSF activities was restricted. Results showed that waist circumference in the medium implementer group significantly increased at one-year and two-year follow-up compared to the low implementer group. No significant effects were observed for other outcomes.

Summary: This study investigates the cost-effectiveness of autologous fat transfer (AFT) versus implant-based reconstruction (IBR) in breast reconstruction. The results show that AFT has higher quality-adjusted life years (QALY) and costs in the first year postoperative. However, due to the absence of additional surgeries, AFT is estimated to be more cost-effective over the 10- and 30-year period.
