Summary: Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for weight recidivism, and endoscopic bariatric treatment has been developed to achieve similar effects without anatomical modification. This study explores the use of an intragastric satiety-inducing device (ISD) coated with a photosensitizer (MB) for photodynamic therapy (PDT) in inhibiting ghrelin secretion and inducing satiety signals. The results show the potential of this novel endoscopic bariatric therapy in reducing body weight gain and ghrelin levels.

Summary: Photodynamic therapy utilizes photosensitizer molecules for the treatment of diseases, but stability and encapsulation efficiency are influenced by lipid composition. Some lipid compositions can enhance stability of liposomes, while Acridine Orange has greater affinity for vesicles. Different liposomes have varied effects on cytotoxicity and phototoxicity in tumor cells.

Summary: This study investigates the application of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy in vitro against Candida species, showing that MB-aPDT combined with CHX can effectively reduce the number of Candida and may be used for treating resistant or persistent infections. Both LED and WMH lamps have similar efficiencies, with WMH lamp being slightly more efficient.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the simultaneous use of two photosensitizers may produce effects that depend on factors such as attenuation of light by photosensitizers molecules, shielding effect and steric hindrance by photosensitizers, and inter- and intra-photobleaching. The combined use of methylene blue and curcumin, photoactivated simultaneously at specific wavelengths, is not simply an additive process, showcasing both potential benefits and challenges for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal combinatorial parameters of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) mediated by methylene blue (MB) with the addition of potassium iodide (KI) against Candida species. The best parameters were found to be MB 0.1 mM, KI 400 mM, a light dose of 20 J/cm2, and a 5-minute incubation time of MB for Candida albicans.

Summary: The combination of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) using methylene blue (MB) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) has shown promise as an effective treatment for microbial diseases. The use of ABA triblock Pluronic (R) P-123 copolymer as a carrier and stabilizing agent for AuNPs has proven to be efficient in obtaining reproducible samples. The synthesis of AuNPs presented plasmonic resonance peaks ranging from 535 to 554 nm, indicating spherical AuNPs. The combination therapy demonstrated both photodynamic and photothermal effects, with synergy observed in the generation of singlet oxygen and heat. The samples showed significant antifungal and antibacterial activity, making this approach a potential method for treating microbial infections.

Summary: This in vitro study assessed the efficacy of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy, Nd:YAG laser, and other disinfectants against P. gingivalis and T. forsythia on zirconia ceramics and their effects on zirconia surface. The results showed that antimicrobial photodynamic therapy had the highest antibacterial efficacy, followed by chlorhexidine and Nd:YAG laser. Hydrogen peroxide had the least effect. Additionally, antimicrobial photodynamic therapy increased the hydrophilicity of the zirconia surface.

Summary: Widespread skin infections caused by bacteria and yeast pose a growing threat to healthcare systems. Phyto-photodynamic antimicrobial therapy using nanoengineered self-assembling bilosomes, with the combination of curcumin and Methylene Blue, shows higher efficiency in eliminating microbial cells compared to the individual components. This study provides evidence that this combination enhances the photo-eradication efficiency of Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, demonstrating the potential of innovative antimicrobial phyto-photodynamic therapy.
