Summary: On October 4, 2021, a global outage of Meta (previously Facebook) lasting for 6 hours caused stress among billions of people who were unable to access their social media accounts. This study examined the stress experienced by adults during the outage and identified factors such as fear of missing out (FoMO), social media intensity, age, marital status, and demographic factors as predictors. The findings revealed different emotional reactions, with anxiety followed by relief, negative feelings, positive feelings including a joy of missing out (JoMO), and indifference. The study also found that FoMO and intensity mediated the relationship between age and stress, and that gender and employment were associated with different levels of stress.

Summary: The proliferation of social media platforms has provided researchers with ample opportunities to explore the implications of positive and negative use. This study investigates the association between fear of missing out (FoMO) and social media fatigue, finding that this association is mediated by information and communication overload, online subjective well-being, and compulsive social media use. The model was tested using data collected from Instagram and Snapchat users, and the findings suggest that FoMO is positively associated with information overload and compulsive use for both platforms. Additionally, FoMO is also positively associated with communication overload and online subjective well-being for Snapchat users. Overall, this research sheds light on the negative effects of FoMO and its association with social media fatigue, providing insights into the psychological consequences of social media use.

The findings revealed a very weak positive correlation between self-care agency and death anxiety. Elderly individuals without regular income had higher levels of death anxiety, and there were significant differences in death anxiety levels based on sex and marital status. Low levels of death anxiety may have a positive effect on maintaining self-care agency in elderly individuals, suggesting the importance of training and interventions by nurses to improve self-care agency and assess death anxiety in this population.
