Summary: The objective of this study was to determine if women with endometriosis experience lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs) more often than those without. The study found that women with surgically confirmed endometriosis were more likely to report LUTS, including difficulty passing urine, still feeling full after urination, having to urinate again within minutes of urinating, dysuria, and pain when the bladder is full.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term outcomes of a small cohort of children with confirmed dysfunctional voiding and lower urinary tract symptoms who received short-term urotherapy. Results showed that after a 10-year follow-up, 71.4% of the children reported satisfactory bladder and voiding conditions without further treatment, with a significant decrease in voiding detrusor pressure.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of SUI on the sexual activity of women, show the extent of the problem, and assess sexual functioning. SUI was found to decrease intercourse frequency and cause sexual dysfunction, with factors like age, marital status, BMI, and duration of SUI having no effect on women's sexual activity. Women have developed strategies to cope with urine leakage during intercourse.

Summary: This study found that chronic exposure to hypoxanthine in drinking water caused changes in voiding behavior and bladder structure in adult rats, resembling alterations observed with aging. Increased levels of hypoxanthine were associated with ROS/oxidative stress-induced cellular damage, which may play a key role in the development of age-related LUTS.

Summary: Botulinum toxin A (Botox) is a promising drug for the treatment of lower urinary tract disorders. It has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects, and has been widely used to treat conditions such as overactive bladder and neurogenic detrusor overactivity. However, its use is not licensed for other lower urinary tract dysfunctions.

Summary: A potential complication of pharmacotherapy is the possibility of various drug side effects, which can cause diseases. Among the systemic side effects, there are also those involving the urinary tract. The use of certain drugs may increase the risk of urological disorders, such as urinary retention or incontinence, urinary tract infections, urolithiasis, erectile dysfunction, and retroperitoneal fibrosis.

Summary: Lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) is a common condition in men that imposes significant physical, mental, social, and financial burdens on society. However, research on the influence of environmental chemicals on LUTD is lacking. This review provides toxicologists with an overview of the disease process and the role of environmental chemicals in contributing to LUTD, using both men and male mice as research models.

Summary: The study aimed to estimate the prevalence and bother of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) among female nurses in China. The results showed that LUTS were highly prevalent and severely bothersome among these nurses, despite their relatively young age, good health, and healthy lifestyles. This calls for remedial action to ensure a healthy nursing workforce.

Summary: Aging is associated with a higher incidence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and erectile dysfunction (ED) in males. The prevalence of LUTS and ED is linked to vascular risk factors, suggesting that arterial disorders may play a role in the development of these conditions. Studies have shown that patients with LUTS have lower blood flow to the bladder and prostate, and the severity of LUTS and ED is correlated with the severity of vascular disorders. Experimental models have demonstrated that chronic pelvic ischemia (CPI) induced by atherosclerosis leads to increased contraction of prostate and bladder tissues, impaired relaxation of erectile tissue, and the co-development of detrusor overactivity and ED. These findings indicate that pelvic ischemia may be an important contributing factor to LUTS-associated ED.

Summary: Chronic psychological stress can affect urinary function and worsen lower urinary tract dysfunction, especially in patients with overactive bladder or interstitial cystitis-bladder pain syndrome. Although the exact mechanisms are unknown, studies have shown a close relationship between chronic stress and urinary dysfunction. Animal models of stress provide valuable tools to investigate the effects of chronic stress on urinary function.

Summary: A nurse-led telephone intervention prior to the first urogynecologic visit reduces visit duration and increases patients' and physicians' satisfaction. Results show that the intervention group had significantly shorter consultation times compared to the control group, with high satisfaction rates from patients and physicians regarding the intervention.
