The treatment gap after major osteoporotic fractures in Denmark 2005-2014: a combined analysis including both prescription-based and hospital-administered anti-osteoporosis medications

Summary: This study reveals a significant and persistent treatment gap in anti-osteoporosis treatment in patients aged 50 years and older who suffered major osteoporotic fractures in Denmark between 2005 and 2014, even with the inclusion of hospital-administered treatments. Strengthened post-fracture care organization and secondary fracture prevention are urgently needed.

Radiological Factors Associated with Bisphosphonate Treatment Failure and Their Impact on Fracture Healing in Postmenopausal Women with Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the incidence of bisphosphonate treatment failure, associated radiological factors, and effect of fracture healing in postmenopausal women with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. The non-response group had significantly lower initial BMD values than the response group, and the initial BMD value of the spine and the FRAX hip were identified as radiological factors influencing bisphosphonate non-response. These findings provide insights into the possible mechanisms and factors influencing bisphosphonate treatment failure in osteoporosis.

Better oral hygiene is associated with a reduced risk of osteoporotic fracture: a nationwide cohort study

The Efficacy of Alendronate Versus Denosumab on Major Osteoporotic Fracture Risk in Elderly Patients With Diabetes Mellitus: A Danish Retrospective Cohort Study

Long-term exposure to air pollution and COVID-19 severity: A cohort study in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom*

Summary: Exposure to outdoor air pollution is associated with higher rates of severe COVID-19, as indicated by hospitalizations and deaths. Particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and benzene show significant positive associations with COVID-19 hospital admissions. PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and benzene also show significant positive associations with COVID-19 mortality. These associations are stronger in older individuals, those who are overweight or obese, current smokers, and individuals with underlying comorbidities.

Oral health inequality in Canada, the United States and United Kingdom

Summary: This study quantified the magnitude of oral health inequality in Canada, the United States (US), and the United Kingdom (UK), countries with similar socio-political environments but differing oral health care systems. The results showed significant oral health inequality in all three countries. The highest inequality in untreated decay was found in the US, followed by Canada, and the lowest in the UK. The study suggests that the more equitable nature of the oral health care system in the UK might contribute to lower oral health inequality compared to the highly privatized dental care environments in Canada and the US.

Total Cholesterol Variability and the Risk of Osteoporotic Fractures: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study

Summary: This study found that variability in serum total cholesterol (TC) is associated with the risk of osteoporotic fractures. Higher TC variability was significantly associated with an increased risk of overall osteoporotic fractures, as well as vertebral and hip fractures. Maintaining stable TC levels may help reduce the risk of osteoporotic fractures in the future.

Impact of Stroke History on the Risk of Recurrent Hip Fracture or Major Osteoporotic Fractures among Patients with Incident Hip Fracture: A Nationwide Cohort Study

Summary: Considerable uncertainty exists regarding the risk factors for recurrent fracture among older patients with hip fracture. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between prefracture stroke history, baseline mobility, and the risk of recurrent hip fracture. The findings showed that stroke history was associated with the cumulative incidence of recurrent hip fracture within one year, but its association varied depending on the baseline mobility of the patients.

The use of oral glucocorticoids and the risk of major osteoporotic fracture in patients with myasthenia gravis

Site-Specific Fracture Incidence Rates Among Patients With Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, or Without Diabetes in Denmark (1997-2017)

Summary: A study in Denmark from 1997 to 2017 found that the incidence rates of fractures were higher in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes compared to those without diabetes, except for foot fractures. The incidence of hip fractures decreased by 35.2%, 47.0%, and 23.4% in patients with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and without diabetes, respectively, over the last 5 years. However, vertebral fractures increased by 14.8%, 18.5%, and 38.9% in the same groups. After age adjustment, patients with type 1 diabetes still had a higher risk of fractures compared to those without diabetes, while patients with type 2 diabetes had a risk similar to those without diabetes.

Cancer risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated with janus kinase inhibitors: a nationwide Danish register-based cohort study

The results showed that JAKi treatment was not associated with a statistically significant increased risk of first primary cancer compared to bDMARDs treatment in RA patients.

An explorative analysis of pharmacovigilance data of oxytocin and its analogue carbetocin, with a focus on haemodynamic adverse effects

Summary: This study analyzed the adverse drug events and haemodynamic profile of oxytocin and carbetocin using data from the World Health Organization's pharmacovigilance database. The results showed that carbetocin had a higher reporting of adverse hypertension, hypotension, and tachycardia compared to oxytocin. Therefore, clinicians should be cautious of their patients' susceptibility and the potential haemodynamic deterioration when using these drugs.

Pregnancy still occurred during retinoid use, and pregnant women were still prescribed with these drugs.
