Summary: This study evaluated the application of intraoperative molecular imaging (IMI) in lung and pleural tumor resection. A total of 500 patients were included, and IMI was found to be clinically useful in detecting margins, confirming residual disease, identifying synchronous cancers, and localizing nonpalpable lesions. Different optical contrast agents showed varying effectiveness in different types of tumors.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy of MSA device placement in patients with persistent or de novo GERD after sleeve gastrectomy. The results showed that MSA device placement significantly improved GERD symptoms, reduced anti-reflux medication usage, and resulted in high patient satisfaction. Further studies are needed to validate the use of MSA in patients who have undergone sleeve gastrectomy.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between delayed gastric emptying (DGE) and outcomes of magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) surgery. It found that mild-to-moderate DGE diminishes surgical outcomes in the short term, but by 1 year, outcomes become comparable and remain stable at 2 years. Severe DGE may result in suboptimal surgical outcomes.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients included in an ongoing observational multicenter registry from January 2015 to September 2020. The study aimed to investigate the outcome after failed mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients with large vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS) and identify predictive factors of favorable outcome despite recanalization failure. The results showed that younger age, lower admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), a lower number of MT passes, a lower delta ASPECTS between initial and Day-1 imaging, and stroke etiology were significantly associated with a 90-day favorable outcome.

Summary: The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of laparoscopy in treating hepatic alveolar echinococcosis. Laparoscopic surgery was found to be safe and effective, with superior outcomes in terms of postoperative complications, catheterization time, and hospital stay compared to open surgery. Prospective, randomized trials are needed to confirm the superiority of laparoscopic surgery.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the impact of modifiable variables in acute stroke management in Conakry, Guinea and their potential as predictors of favorable stroke outcome. The results showed that lower admission NIHSS score, early brain CT imaging, and lower mean arterial blood pressure emerged as significant positive predictors of favorable stroke outcome. On the other hand, the presence of fever or sores impacted negatively on stroke favorable outcomes.

Summary: Laparoscopic revision paraesophageal hernia repair (PEHr) is a safe and effective procedure for relieving foregut symptoms associated with paraesophageal hernias. However, some patients may still require revision surgery. This study demonstrates that laparoscopic revision PEHr is associated with a low rate of morbidity and mortality, and may improve quality-of-life outcomes for patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the safety, effectiveness, and generalisability of laparoscopic transcystic common bile duct exploration (LTCBDE) in patients with cholecystolithiasis and choledocholithiasis. The study found that LTCBDE was successful in 94.3% of the 400 patients, with 23 patients requiring conversion to laparoscopic choledocholithotomy due to intraoperative choledochoscope insertion failure.

Summary: This study validated the long-term oncologic outcomes for very low rectal cancer over the past 20 years and found that laparoscopic procedures are effective options for patients with very low rectal cancer. It also showed that laparoscopic surgeries for very low rectal cancer, including LAR, LATA, and APR, could be good surgical options for selective patients. The study highlighted the importance of CRM involvement as a significant factor for disease-free survival and overall survival in patients with very low rectal cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the outcomes and mortality rates after 90 days of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in young Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke and large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO), as well as their predictors. The study included 113 patients aged 18-50 years and found that EVT provided higher rates of arterial recanalization, but had limited effects on favorable outcomes and risk of death at 3 months. Increased NIHSS scores on admission may be associated with poor patient prognosis.

Summary: Laparoscopic magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) appears to offer similar long-term improvement in disease-specific quality of life as laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (LNF). However, MSA may be associated with the risk of reoperation and device removal.
