In this work, an electrical-driven release and migration glyphosate (EDRMG) was fabricated using a nanocomposite made up of attapulgite (ATP), glyphosate (Gly), and calcium alginate (CA). Therein, ATP-CA acted as a nanonetwork-structured carrier to efficiently load plenty of Gly to form porous ATP-Gly-CA hydrogel spheres (actually EDRMG-0.5) via a cross-linking reaction. The pores in EDRMG-0.5 hydrogel spheres were enlarged under an electric field because of the Coulomb force of the anionic CA polymer, and the release of negatively charged Gly from the spheres could be driven by the electric field force. Thus, EDRMG-0.5 exhibited a great electroresponsively controlled-release property, which was confirmed by a pot experiment. Importantly, the EDRMG-0.5 hydrogel spheres had fine biocompatibility on fish and mice, displaying good biosafety. This work provides a low cost and promising approach to control Gly release, deliver Gly precisely, and improve utilization efficiency, which might have a high application value.

Synthesis of Iron-Based Carbon Microspheres with Tobacco Waste Liquid and Waste Iron Residue for Cd(II) Removal from Water and Soil

Qingchuan Wu, Dongfang Wang, Jia Zhang, Chaowen Chen, Hongjian Ge, He Xu, Dongqing Cai, Zhengyan Wu

Summary: A novel magnetic iron-based carbon microsphere was prepared by cohydrothermal treatment of tobacco waste liquid (TWL) and waste iron residue (WIR), which showed high efficiency in removing bivalent cadmium (Cd(II)) in water and soil. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and thermodynamic data indicated spontaneity and exothermicity. Pot experiments demonstrated the material's effectiveness in reducing Cd absorption by plants in both water and soil, suggesting practical application value for remediating Cd(II)-contaminated environments.

Summary: In this work, a heterojunction photocatalyst with a built-in electric field (BEF) derived from CdTe quantum dots and Bi2WO6 nanosheets was constructed, leading to enhanced charge carrier separation and photocatalytic capability. The BEF promoted the dissociation of photoexcited excitons, resulting in a Z-scheme electronic structure. As a result, the CdTeQDs/2DBWO photocatalyst exhibited significantly improved photodegradation performance.

Bingbing Hou, Xinyue Guo, Ying Zhang, Li Zhang, Dongxin Zhang, Zhengyan Wu, Jia Zhang, Zongyao Hao

Summary: By using rational atomic engineering, nanoparticles of Prussian blue (PB) and its structural analogues with divalent 3d metal ion doping (such as Co2+, Ni2+, and Cu2+) exhibit discriminated peroxidase-like activity, with Cu2+-doped PB (CuPB) showing the highest catalytic activity. The optimized CuPB nanoparticles are coupled with natural uricase to develop a cascade reaction system for measuring the uric acid level in human urine samples, which is highly correlated with standard values determined on instrumentation. This method can be translated into urinalysis, especially as assay kits for point-of-care testing, due to its simplicity and scalability.
