Summary: To improve nanostructural stability and algal removal efficiency, a novel nanochitosan-grafted flocculant (PAD-g-MNC) with enhanced nanostructure and high molecular weight was synthesized. PAD-g-MNC exhibited superior algal and extracellular organic matter (EOM) removal, with turbidity and chlorophyll-a removal rates of 93.46%-95.39% and 95.10%-97.31%, respectively, at a dosage of 4-5 mg L-1. The growth rate, strength factor, and recovery factor of algal flocs flocculated by PAD-g-MNC were higher than other conventional flocculants. The results suggest that the branched nanostructure and high molecular weight of PAD-g-MNC promote the formation of stable flocs and enhance the regeneration ability of flocs.

Summary: The synthesis and application of conventional polymeric flocculants have limitations in terms of efficiency and toxicity, which necessitates the development of green and efficient alternatives. This study presents the synthesis of an amphiphilic copolymer (NPL) that demonstrates superior flocculation performance on suspended solids. The effectiveness of NPL was confirmed by reducing the turbidity of kaolin and bentonite clay suspensions. The use of NPL in combination with polymeric aluminum chloride showed excellent potential for the treatment of high-turbidity wastewater, improving effluent quality.

Summary: This study examines the influence of a hybrid coagulation/flocculation process on highly stable bentonite suspension. The results show that cationic and anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) exhibit different flocculation behaviors in the presence of a natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). The molecular weight and charge density of PAM have a significant impact on the flocculation efficiency of bentonite suspension.

Summary: Despite being widely used, polyacrylamide faces performance challenges in tailings treatment. This study compared the performance of two commercial polyacrylamides with different molecular weights to treat iron ore tailings with two polymers designed for oil sand tailings treatment. The higher molecular weight polyacrylamide performed better, but still fell short of desired solid-liquid separation efficiency. The new polymer flocculants outperformed commercially available polyacrylamides but retained high water content in the sediments. This comparison suggests the potential use of alternative polymers for iron ore tailings treatment.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of polyacrylamide dispersity on flocculation performance in a kaolinite clay system. It is found that lower dispersity polyacrylamides result in larger clay aggregates, and the low molecular weight fraction has less influence on aggregate size. These findings suggest that polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions can be used in lower dosages.

Summary: The flotation process of fine non-coking coal from kaolinite was improved by the addition of anionic polyacrylamide, which interacted with kaolinite and coal particles through hydrogen bonding. Anionic polyacrylamide selectively flocculated kaolinite particles, reducing kaolinite pollution in the froth and decreasing the amount of kaolinite particles coating the clean coal surface. Ultimately, the flotation selectivity was enhanced by anionic polyacrylamide pre-conditioning.

Summary: This study investigated the treatment of water-based drilling fluid using modified acrylamide copolymers as flocculants, aiming to improve drilling performance and reduce environmental contamination. The prepared copolymers were characterized in terms of their chemical structure, thermal stability, and interaction with clay particles. The results showed that the anionic copolymer with the highest molecular weight exhibited the best performance as a coagulant. Other factors such as molecular chain were also found to affect the interaction between the copolymers and clay particles.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

Summary: The potential of multi-layer nanoemulsions for improving the cellular uptake, antioxidant activity, and in vitro bioaccessibility of alpha-tocopherol was examined. The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
