Summary: This study conducted a citation analysis on the utilization of theories, models, and frameworks (TMFs) in aging research. The results indicate an increasing utilization of TMFs in aging research, but only 41% of the usage was meaningful. The study highlights the importance of more meaningful utilization of TMFs in quickly and effectively translating evidence-based practices and care models into routine care, particularly as the population of older adults continues to grow.

Summary: This study aimed to identify and describe theories, models, and frameworks of health research partnerships, and report on the concepts of knowledge user engagement represented in these theories, models, and frameworks. The results showed that among the 39 included models or frameworks, only two were underpinned by theory, and the most common concept of knowledge user engagement was principles/values. These models and frameworks can be used by researchers and knowledge users to guide various aspects of health research partnerships.

Summary: This review aimed to assess the effectiveness of theoretical implementation frameworks in changing care processes and patient outcomes in inpatient healthcare settings. The analysis of 25 studies found no consensus on a preferred framework or subset, highlighting the need for a more consistent approach to framework selection and the strengthening of existing methods in order to further develop the implementation evidence base.

Summary: Translating research findings into service improvements or policy changes is a challenge for health service organizations like the Health Service Executive (HSE) in Ireland. This study reviewed and selected three knowledge translation theories, models, and frameworks (TMFs) suitable for HSE use, aiming to increase the dissemination and translation of research knowledge. By using robust selection criteria, the HSE developed guidance to promote a culture of research knowledge and evidence use within the organization.

Summary: This study reviewed definitions and determinants of outer context in dissemination and implementation theories and frameworks. The study found 19 definitions of outer context and identified common domains such as policy, community, partnerships, and communications. The findings highlight the importance of understanding and measuring outer context factors in implementing evidence-based interventions.

Summary: This article discusses the importance of considering intersecting social factors and systems of power and oppression in implementation research and practice. It outlines a five-step process for prioritizing MTFs with an intersectional lens and identifies exemplar MTFs for different phases of the implementation process. The approach provides a template for future consideration of other implementation MTFs.

Summary: Implementation Science is a discipline studying methods and strategies to facilitate the integration of evidence-based clinical practice into regular use by practitioners and policymakers. One important progress in this field is the development of Standards for Reporting Implementation Studies (StaRI), providing a checklist for researchers to consistently report essential elements of the implementation and intervention strategies. This review, using StaRI as a framework, discusses specific challenges in Implementation Science research with older adults, provides solutions for these obstacles, and opportunities to improve the value of this evolving approach to reduce knowledge translation losses between research and clinical practice.

Summary: This study aims to identify the theory, model, and framework approaches that have been used to facilitate the implementation and adoption of CDSSs in hospitals. The findings show that models and quality improvement methods are the most frequently used methods to guide CDSS adoption. However, the study also highlights a lack of implementation methods, including theories, models, and frameworks, in guiding full-cycle implementation strategies for hospital CDSSs.
