Summary: This paper proposes a spatiotemporal coordination method for a wind-PV-hydropower system based on spectral analysis to achieve maximum virtual energy storage gain. The study finds that hydropower complements wind and PV power by reducing the variability in system production output. A case study in the Yalong River basin in China identifies the optimal coordination distance between hydropower and wind power and PV power stations, and suggests that increased regulation capacity of hydropower can achieve more energy balance.

Summary: The fast-growing demand for renewable energy due to new stringent environmental policies necessitates the integration of energy storage systems to renewable generators. Hybrid storage systems, combining flywheel and battery technologies, can significantly reduce power profile fluctuations at the point of interface to the grid. Studies show that the use of hybrid storage systems can be economically competitive and beneficial for wind energy production.

Summary: Recently, there has been a growing interest in multienergy Microgrids, which involve different energy vectors treated as a whole. Most references studied do not accurately model or omit some of the subsystems, which complicates the representation of these grids. This paper aims to develop a comprehensive yet manageable multienergy MG model to accurately represent the interaction between electrical, natural gas and hydrogen subsystems, validated with real data in various scenarios.

Summary: Frequent failures of power converters in wind turbines have a negative impact on their availability and incur substantial maintenance costs. This study aims to identify the primary causes and failure modes of power-converter failures in wind turbines from a statistical perspective. Using regression models, design-related and site-specific covariates are incorporated to analyze extensive field data from over 9000 turbines worldwide. The results suggest that factors like the converter's location in the turbine, cooling system, rated power, voltage, IGBT-module manufacturer, and turbine commissioning date significantly influence the failure behavior and overall reliability of power converters, with humidity being a likely driver of failures.

Summary: The study suggests that achieving 100% renewable energy in the contiguous United States may require slightly higher CO2 abatement costs, especially as the system approaches full renewable penetration. Additionally, sensitivity analysis under different conditions highlights the importance of considering various factors such as technology development, compliance requirements, and transmission availability.

Summary: This paper presents a grid-forming control strategy for wind turbines using doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) to address the impacts of restoration transients and symmetrical/asymmetrical faults on the regulation of DFIG rotor currents and stator voltages. It leverages two-axis anti-windup regulators to limit voltage and current commands within ratings. The controller's performance is demonstrated using a high-fidelity simulation model of a wind-dominant grid.

Summary: This paper investigates the importance of accelerating the transition to renewable energy and proposes a strategy to simulate the inertia response of synchronous generators by connecting a supercapacitor directly to the back-to-back converter DC link, thus replacing conventional power plants. Compared to existing techniques, this strategy allows for a more accurate emulation of synchronous generators.

Summary: Understanding the technical and economic challenges of achieving 100% renewable energy electric power systems is crucial, as literature and real-world experience both point to the need to balance supply and demand economically and design reliable grids using inverter-based resources. Economic challenges arise due to nonlinear cost increases as systems near 100% renewable energy, while technical challenges may necessitate new inverter designs.

Summary: This study evaluates the reliability and outage cost of the Korean power system in the Gyeongju and Yeonggwang areas considering natural disaster incidents. The analysis includes probabilistic reliability assessment simulation of an equivalent power system model and proposes a generator equation with increased FOR to quantify the reduction in reliability and outage cost. Comparing results from the two areas shows the decrease in reliability and increase in cost.
