Summary: This study investigated the impact of having headaches prior to traumatic brain injury (TBI) on headache features and long-term patient health outcomes. The findings suggest that patients with pre-TBI headaches are less likely to be diagnosed with post-traumatic headache (PTH) and have more severe symptoms of cutaneous allodynia, cognitive impairment, and generalized anxiety.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a major public health concern, particularly due to post-traumatic headache (PTH) which can be complex and difficult to treat. Despite debates on its classification and limited research, there are potential treatments such as CGRP monoclonal antibodies showing promise in PTH management.

Summary: This review discusses the pharmacologic management of post-traumatic headache and the potential therapeutic benefits of targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide signaling. It suggests using a phenotype-guided approach for treatment based on the primary headache phenotype that the clinical features resemble the most. Additionally, advancements are being made in identifying cellular and molecular drivers of headache persistence.

Summary: Post-traumatic headache is a common and persistent symptom following mild traumatic brain injury, with onset typically within 7 days post-injury. Pathophysiological mechanisms of post-traumatic headache involve structural, functional, metabolic, and neuroinflammatory factors. Effective therapy options are currently lacking, with future research priorities including optimizing diagnostic criteria and understanding pathophysiology.

Summary: Post-traumatic headache (PTH) is a common and debilitating consequence of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) that can occur over one year after the head impact event. Understanding the pathophysiology and risk factors of PTH is crucial for early identification and management. Risk factors for PTH include history of migraines or headaches, female gender, younger age, greater severity of the head injury, and co-occurring psychological symptoms. PTH can present in various clinical profiles and treatment options include pharmacological interventions and non-pharmacological approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and physical therapy.

Summary: Treatment for refractory PCH in the pediatric ED is highly variable, with patients with severe PCH most likely to receive intravenous therapies, often using metoclopramide. There is a lack of evidence supporting these choices and further research is urgently needed to establish the comparative effectiveness of pharmacotherapeutic treatments for children with refractory PCH.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the headache characteristics of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) over time. The results showed that patients with TBI had more severe and frequent headaches than individuals without brain injury initially, but there was improvement in headache severity and frequency with time post-injury. However, patients with migraine headaches had smaller improvements in headache characteristics and experienced more impact on their quality of life.

Summary: The paper discusses the treatment and pharmacotherapy selection for post-traumatic headache (PTH) based on known pathophysiology. Understanding mechanisms and identifying at-risk patients are crucial for effective treatment. Trials of early, targeted therapy and multidisciplinary approaches are needed to validate hypotheses and develop more effective treatment models.

Summary: This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility and validity of using the Zeriscope(TM) platform system to measure HRV in individuals with TBI in a clinical setting. The results showed that the Zeriscope device had lower concordance coefficient compared to the standard ECG device, indicating lower accuracy. However, participants rated the Zeriscope system as easy to use.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the correlation between leader performance in the fourth year of medical school and leader performance in PGY1 and 3 of residency, while considering previous academic performance markers. The results showed that leader performance in the fourth year of medical school could predict leader performance in PGY1 and 3, with a stronger correlation in PGY3. Additionally, the performance on the MCAT and USMLE exams was not predictive of leader performance in PGY1 and PGY3. These findings provide evidence for the importance of continued leader development in medical education.
