Summary: The preoperative CONUT score is a reliable predictor of short-term outcomes in gastric cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic gastrectomy. Patients with high CONUT scores had a significantly higher incidence of overall complications, and the CONUT score was identified as an independent risk predictor of postoperative complications after multivariate analysis.

Summary: The Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is a simple screening tool that can detect nutritional status and predict adverse clinical outcomes in specific populations. This study aimed to investigate the predictive role of the CONUT score on mortality and length of stay (LOS) in frail patients admitted to an Internal Medicine Department. The results showed that high CONUT scores were associated with longer LOS, but did not significantly predict mortality.

Summary: This study found that the baseline Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT score) is significantly associated with the prognosis of advanced thyroid cancer patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). The CONUT score can serve as a useful screening tool to predict the prognosis of thyroid cancer patients before the initiation of anti-tumoral treatment.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and post-operative complications and length of stay in head and neck cancer patients. The results showed that pre-operative malnutrition was associated with higher incidences of complications and longer hospital stays. Early identification and management of malnutrition should be a key component of prehabilitation programs to reduce post-operative risks.

Summary: ESD for early gastric cancer in elderly patients has comparable enbloc and histological complete resection rates to non-elderly patients. There is a slight tendency of increased perforation risk in elderly patients, with significantly higher rates in those aged ≥80 years. The risk of pneumonia is significantly higher in elderly patients, while bleeding rates do not differ. The certainty of evidence is very low, highlighting the need for high-quality studies to enhance the quality of evidence.

Summary: This study aimed to verify the different utility of biomarkers by patients' age. They found that neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), controlling nutrition (CONUT) score, carci-noembryonic antigen (CEA), and carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 had different impact on survivals in aged and young patients. NLR and CEA stratified overall survival (OS) in aged patients, whereas CONUT score and CA19-9 could stratify OS in young patients.

Summary: Research has shown that bariatric surgery can significantly improve insulin resistance, the most common pathophysiological change in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This effect may be related to changes in the gut microbiome and microbial metabolites after bariatric surgery. Further exploration is needed to discuss the prospect of bariatric surgery as a treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
