Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol on postoperative recovery in patients undergoing minimally invasive heart valve surgery. The results showed that the ERAS protocol led to significantly shorter postoperative hospital stays, ICU stays, and overall hospital stays compared to routine care, without compromising patient safety.

Summary: Implementation of the ERAS protocol resulted in a decrease in post-operative opioid prescribing and a reduction in post-operative interactions with clinic staff, particularly those related to pain.

Summary: ERAS is a pathway designed to promote early recovery for patients undergoing major surgery, with three important components: preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative program. Adoption of ERAS can lead to lower complication rates, shorter hospital stays, improved patient outcomes, and reduced overall cost of care.

Summary: Perioperative pain management is important for patient satisfaction and safe recovery. Studies show that patients don't require as much opioids as once thought. The use of ERAS pathways can not only enhance patients' perioperative experience, but also reduce opioid prescriptions in the face of the ongoing opioid crisis.

Summary: This study compared the 30-day outcomes of ultra-fast-track minimally invasive valve surgery (UFT-MIVS) with conventional MIVS (c-MIVS) in cardiac surgery. The results showed that UFT-MIVS reduces the occurrence of postoperative respiratory insufficiency and agitation/delirium, and patients receiving UFT-MIVS had shorter intensive care unit length of stay and hospital stay.

Summary: This meta-analysis compared the clinical outcomes of the ERAS protocol and standard care (SC) in patients who underwent minimally invasive bariatric surgery. The results showed that the ERAS protocol significantly reduced the length of hospitalization, hospitalization costs, and the incidence of 30-day readmission compared to standard care. However, no differences were observed in postoperative complications and mortality.

Summary: Implementation of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol for three-stage minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) resulted in earlier ambulation and lower pulmonary complications, without a change in anastomotic leakage or length of hospital stay. Further studies on minimizing leakage should be addressed in ERAS for MIE.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of a SDD protocol with postdischarge follow-up using a mobile phone app in patients undergoing elective minimally-invasive colectomy. The study found that the number of patients discharged on the day of surgery without emergency department visit or readmission within the first 3 days was similar between the SDD group and the standard ERP group. The rates of 30-day complications, emergency department visits, and readmissions were also similar.

Summary: This study aimed to develop an ERAS protocol for patients undergoing foregut surgery and determine its impact on outcomes. The results showed that implementing the ERAS protocol led to a 41% decrease in complications and a 33% reduction in length of stay compared to traditional protocols. Completing the ERAS protocol further reduced complications and length of stay compared to patients who deviated from the protocol.

Summary: The study found that the use of smartbands after minimally invasive colorectal surgery did not significantly increase compliance with early mobilization or reduce the occurrence of postoperative complications, but optimized quality of recovery, allowing patients to return to their preoperative status earlier.

Summary: The implementation of an ERAS protocol in minimally invasive heart valve surgery resulted in a significantly shorter in-hospital stay and cost savings. However, the costs for physiotherapy were higher in the ERAS group compared to the control group. Overall, the ERAS protocol led to cost savings per patient and is expected to have a key role in modern cardiac surgery.

Summary: This review focuses on the rationale and oncologic outcomes of the application of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in adult patients undergoing major surgery. It was found that the implementation of ERAS protocols is associated with fewer postoperative complications and decreased return to intended oncologic treatment (RIOT). However, there is limited research on the influence of ERAS application on long-term oncologic outcomes.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognostic significance of the systemic inflammation score (SIS) for NSCLC patients undergoing VATS lobectomy, showing a significant decrease in overall survival and disease-free survival with each 1-point increase in SIS. SIS = 1 and SIS = 2 were identified as independent prognostic factors for unfavorable OS and DFS.

Summary: The study analyzed the expression of Herpes simplex virus, Cytomegalovirus, and Rubella virus in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and found a significant increase in antibody levels of these viruses in NSCLC patients compared to healthy controls. More basic experimental research is needed to further investigate the relationship between these viruses and lung carcinogenesis.

Summary: The study assessed the prognostic significance of preoperative NPS in VATS lobectomy patients and found a significant association between NPS and unfavorable OS and DFS of NSCLC. NPS demonstrated the best discriminatory power for predicting both OS and DFS, and remained validated after PSM analysis, indicating that it could serve as an independent prognostic indicator for both outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological differences and therapeutic response of NSCLC patients with SDC4::ROS1 fusion to crizotinib. The study found that different ROS1 fusion partners may affect the efficacy of crizotinib and patient prognosis. In addition, higher expression levels of ROS1 and pERK1/2 in tumor cells of case 2 may be related to the therapeutic response and prognosis.

Summary: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with limited treatment options. Over the past decade, immunotherapy has made progress in the treatment of SCLC, but current immune checkpoint inhibitors have limited benefits for patient survival. Therefore, it is important to explore new targets and develop drugs with novel mechanisms for immunotherapy in SCLC.
