Summary: Oral chemotherapy using S1 following definitive chemoradiotherapy in patients with stage N3 nasopharyngeal carcinoma showed significant effectiveness. Patients who received S1 maintenance over 12 cycles had higher survival rates. Side effects of S1 were mild and tolerable.

Summary: The study revealed that percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy can help maintain the nutritional status and improve treatment completion rate for locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients, with survival benefits observed in N3 NPC patients. Prospective clinical trials are needed to further validate these findings.

Summary: Translation: The Importance of Platinum-Based Therapies for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor characterized by the transformation of nasopharyngeal epithelial cells. Radiotherapy is the primary treatment modality, but it often fails to achieve desirable outcomes for locally advanced NPC (LA-NPC). Therefore, combining radiotherapy with chemotherapy, particularly concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) using platinum-based drugs, has become an effective strategy. The extensive use of platinum drugs in clinical settings highlights their therapeutic potential and emphasizes the importance of developing novel platinum-based complexes for anticancer therapy.

Summary: This study investigated the survival impact and toxicity of maintenance metronomic chemotherapy in patients with metastatic/recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The results showed that maintenance chemotherapy significantly improved overall and progression-free survivals while demonstrating low toxicity.

Summary: The study found that adding induction chemotherapy (ICT) followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) to treatment for locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC) significantly improved overall survival and progression-free survival compared to CCRT alone.

Summary: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus nimotuzumab after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma achieved higher complete remission rate and significantly improved distant metastasis-free survival compared with concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone. Additionally, an increasing trend was observed in progression-free survival, and the incidence of side effects was similar in both groups.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of adding induction chemotherapy or adjuvant chemotherapy to concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with T3-4N0-1M0 nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The study found that adding induction chemotherapy or adjuvant chemotherapy did not significantly improve the prognosis of these patients.

Summary: The study found that the combination of nimotuzumab with chemoradiotherapy is effective for the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, especially when used in combination with induction chemotherapy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy. The addition of nimotuzumab did not result in a significant increase in toxicities.

Summary: The combination therapy of apatinib and S-1/capecitabine for ESCC patients with residual disease after dCRT demonstrated tolerable toxicity and satisfactory disease control. The study showed good efficacy and safety profile, with most common adverse events being of grade 1 to 2, and better PFS associated with the occurrence of any adverse events and better OS with the occurrence of proteinuria.

Summary: The study identified the residual volume of lymph nodes at the fourth week of chemoradiotherapy as the best volumetric indicator associated with prognosis. Three nomograms were developed including this indicator to predict specific probability of 4-year overall survival, progression-free survival, and distant metastasis-free survival for NPC patients receiving induction chemotherapy followed by chemoradiotherapy.

Summary: Different induction chemotherapeutic strategies have varying effects and risks on the survival outcomes of patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Gemcitabine plus platinum and docetaxel combined with 5-fluorouracil plus platinum strategies were associated with the highest rates of overall survival. The objective response and disease control rates were high after the completion of induction chemotherapy.

Summary: A Bayesian network meta-analysis compared the efficacy and toxicities of different induction chemotherapy regimens in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The results showed no significant differences in survival outcomes, mucositis, or gastrointestinal adverse events among the four regimens, but GP regimen had the highest probability of improving overall survival and affected the completion rate of concurrent chemotherapy.
