Summary: This study investigates the potential of team mindfulness training in the workplace by integrating individually focused mindfulness meditation literature with collective mindfulness scholarship. The results suggest that team mindfulness training is equally effective in raising individual stress management skills compared to the first-generation mindfulness program. Additionally, it shows promise in developing collective capacity to manage stress and unexpected difficulty. The study contributes to theory by outlining the interdependence between individual and collective mindfulness in workplaces and by suggesting the need for a cross-level approach in next-generation workplace training interventions.

Summary: The combination of mindfulness-based approach with dance movement therapy, known as MBDMT, showed promising results in reducing pain intensity and depression scores among chronic headache patients. The study identified nine therapeutic mechanisms of MBDMT, including creating a safe therapeutic environment, enhancing mindfulness skills, promoting body awareness, and facilitating relaxation and releasing. The results suggest that MBDMT is a feasible and effective therapy approach for chronic pain patients, warranting further research through randomized controlled trials to establish its efficacy.

Summary: The present study found that mindfulness training (MT) and yoga had a positive impact on the health of Army trainees, reducing the impact of pain on training, sleep, mood, and stress. Although there was no significant difference in injury-related medical encounters, intervention trainees had fewer diagnoses and were 30% less likely to seek medical treatment during training.

Summary: The study suggests that pain catastrophizing and mindfulness are important intervention targets to enhance emotional functioning for chronic pain patients, and should be considered simultaneously in interventions.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with prescription medication use among US service members. It found high prevalence of prescription medication use, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), but lower use of cardiovascular drugs compared to the general US population, likely due to the younger age and higher level of physical activity of service members.

Summary: U.S. military Service members have higher smoking rates than the general population, with veterans having even higher rates. The study found that Service members smoked more before military separation. Military separation itself was not a risk factor for smoking, but Service members transitioning out of the military, high alcohol consumers, and those with mental health conditions may be at higher risk of smoking. Incorporating smoking prevention/cessation programs in pre-separation counseling sessions and targeting high-risk subgroups may help reduce smoking among Service members and veterans.

Summary: This study applied network analysis methodology to examine the relationships between pain-related measures in individuals with chronic pain. The findings revealed that pain interference, depression, and anxiety had the highest strength in the networks. Pain catastrophizing played a crucial role in the association between pain and other pain-related health measures.

Summary: In this study, objective sleep measures acquired at-home using ambulatory devices were found to correlate with PTSD patients' complaints about sleep and nightmares. The study also revealed that awakenings associated with trauma-related nightmares predominantly occurred during non-REM sleep and that there were differences in electrodermal activity (EDA) frequency. Therefore, the development of wearable devices to collect physiological parameters is important for understanding sleep and trauma-related nightmares in PTSD patients.

Summary: This study systematically reviews empirical papers on empathy training programs in various service domains and finds that such programs can effectively improve service quality, service employees' well-being, and service users' satisfaction. The study identifies four main empathic competencies developed through the training programs: communication, relationship building, emotional resilience, and counseling skills. However, the current focus of research is limited to healthcare services, with a need for more studies in other sectors.

Summary: Among active duty military patients, those with PTSD diagnosis or positive screening showed higher levels of pain interference, lower physical function, and social satisfaction scores, as well as increased anger, anxiety, fatigue, and depression scores. Emotional numbness was the most significant factor affecting pain intensity, pain interference, and psychological functioning, while avoidance played a key role in influencing physical function. Integrated treatment targeting emotional numbness and avoidance is recommended to improve treatment effectiveness and overall functioning for these patients.

Summary: Risk factor identification is crucial for determining MSKI risk and implementing mitigation strategies. This study investigated whether a self-reported MSKI risk assessment could accurately identify military service members at higher risk and if a traffic light model could differentiate MSKI risks. The study used existing self-reported assessment data and MSKI data from the Military Health System. Results showed that certain variables were associated with greater MSKI risk and could be used as risk factors for the traffic light model. The model was effective in prioritizing individuals for orthopedic care and MSKI risk mitigation plans.

Summary: This study compared the effects of mindfulness and sham treatments on chronic pain, and found that improvements in pain unpleasantness may be driven by placebo effects rather than mindfulness-specific processes. These findings suggest that further research is needed to understand if mindfulness-specific effects emerge after longer durations of online training.

Summary: This study examines whether US military service members endorse safe firearm storage practices depending on the content of the visual message they are exposed to. The results suggest that the profession of the messenger has a more consistent impact on willingness to endorse safe firearm storage practices compared to the message content, although this impact varies across different storage options. The study concludes that using visual messaging featuring security forces may be effective in promoting safe firearm storage at the population level.

Summary: This study examines the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer former military service members and identifies five main themes: identity, negative experiences, impact of experiences, policy, and positive experiences. The findings have important implications for future military research, particularly in understanding the effects of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy and the impact of negative and positive experiences.

Summary: The study examined how community-based organizations implement different prevention approaches to reduce substance use among adolescents and young adults. Various prevention approaches were found to effectively reduce prescription drug misuse at the community level, suggesting the need for more direct prevention activities to complement these approaches. However, additional research is needed to help organizations identify the most suitable approach based on their community's characteristics and resources.
