Summary: The study found that patients receiving CMZP/OX anticonvulsants had a higher ECT seizure threshold compared to those receiving VAL. Factors such as age, medication dosage, and specific anticonvulsant used were significantly associated with seizure threshold. Therefore, when administering ECT treatment, the initial stimulus dose should be determined based on individual patient characteristics and medication regimen.

Summary: Oncology providers displayed both comfort and discomfort with prescribing psychotropic medications, with benzodiazepines being the most commonly prescribed class and mood stabilizers being the least prescribed. Barriers to comfort included difficulties in connecting patients to mental health professionals for follow-up care and inadequate mental health education for providers. Continuing mental health education and improving patient access to mental health resources were suggested to increase providers' comfort in prescribing psychotropic medications.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) on cognition in patients with schizophrenia. The results showed that the majority of patients demonstrated improved cognition after ECT. Factors such as age, voluntary admission, lower pre-ECT cognitive scores, and female sex were found to predict cognitive improvement or deterioration. Additionally, improvements in cognition were associated with improvements in negative symptoms.

Summary: This study evaluated the prescribing patterns of antipsychotic medication and factors predicting the duration of use in low-income, preschool-age children. The findings showed that a significant number of preschoolers were prescribed antipsychotic medications for a considerable duration, and some also received polypharmacy. Further research is needed to identify evidence-based practices to reduce medication use and improve outcomes.

Summary: This article discusses potential neurological side effects caused by psychotropic agents and emphasizes the importance of timely management. It reviews different types of neurological side effects and their mechanisms, assessment, and management methods. Prescribing clinicians should be aware of these potential side effects and possess the knowledge to assess and address them.

Summary: The propagation of epileptiform events is a complex phenomenon involving various neural network recruitment mechanisms such as wave propagation and coupled oscillator dynamics. The clinical significance lies in the risk of secondary generalizations and associated injuries, while anti-seizure medications can affect propagation in different ways.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed dose adjustments in 472 patients undergoing ECT and found that dose increased over the course of ECT treatment, especially in geriatric patients. The results indicate that attention should be paid to decreasing seizure quality and adjusting dose accordingly, particularly in older patients, to ensure high efficacy throughout the course of treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to illustrate the trends in psychotropic drug utilization in China's hospitals. The study found that despite an increase in psychotropic medication use, consumption is still lower compared to other countries and regions. Antidepressants were the most consumed psychotropics, followed by sedatives or hypnotics and antipsychotics. The study also found a significant increase in the consumption of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, while the consumption of typical antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants decreased. Sedatives or hypnotics accounted for the largest proportion of utilized psychotropics in secondary hospitals, while antidepressants were the most commonly used psychotropic in tertiary hospitals.

Summary: This study examines the computational models of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and proposes an update for ECT modeling by accounting for frequency-dependent impedance. The results show that the impedance of ECT electrodes is frequency-dependent and subject-specific. By considering ECT modeling at a single representative frequency, the adaptive and nonadaptive modeling of ECT can be rationalized.

Summary: The study investigated the dispensing of psychotropic medications in Karachi, Pakistan, and found that most pharmacies do not require a physician's prescription to dispense medications. Moreover, the qualifications of pharmacy staff were inadequate, leading to a lack of awareness regarding the abuse potential of psychotropic medications.
