In this research, dispersive liquid-phase microextraction has been used for the extraction of some phenols including phenol, 3-methylphenol, 4-nitrophenol, 2-chlorophenol, tert-buthylphenol from aqueous samples, and then the analysis was done by the gas chromatography-flame ionization detector technique. For the first time, a laboratory homogenizer has been applied for dispersing of extracting organic solvent. To improve the chromatographic behavior, acetic anhydride was used as a derivatization reagent of the analytes. The effective parameters on the extraction and derivation process such as extraction solvent type and volume, amount and time of derivatization, sample pH and ionic strength, homogenization time and speed were investigated and optimized. The analytical performances of the method, such as linear dynamic range,' repeatability, and detection limit were evaluated under the optimum condition. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the calibration plots were linear the range of 1-500 mu g L-1 with the detection limits between 0.1-0.9 mu g L-1, and the repeatability in the range of 2.6 to 10.0%. These values vary depend on the compounds. The proposed method was evaluated for the determination of the studied phenolic compounds in different real samples such as river water, tap water and industrial wastewater. The relative recoveries were between 90 and 111%. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Investigation on Cycling and Calendar Aging Processes of 3.4 Ah Lithium-Sulfur Pouch Cells

Salimeh Gohari, Vaclav Knap, Mohammad Reza Yaftian

Summary: Much attention has been focused on rechargeable lithium-sulfur batteries due to their high theoretical specific capacity, energy density, and cost-effectiveness. However, the rapid fading capacity is a key issue in their commercialization. Sulfuric cathode degradation is driven by passivation of the cathode surface, polysulfide shuttle, and volume changes, particularly during cycling and storage at high state of charge. Storage at 50% state of charge is used to assess the impact of remaining degradation processes. Cycling aging cells showed higher fade capacity compared to calendar aging cells. Contrary to expectations, long-chain polysulfides continue to dissolve under open-circuit conditions in calendar aging cells.

Summary: In this study, an ionic covalent organic framework (iCOF) surface grafting monolithic sorbent was prepared for in-tube solid-phase microextraction (SPME) of aristolochic acids (AAs) in various samples. The density of quaternary ammonium ions in the iCOF was modulated for enhanced adsorption of AAs. The iCOF surface grafting monolithic sorbent was confirmed by different means. Several operating conditions were optimized to develop the online in-tube SPME-HPLC method, which showed good linearity, low limits of detection, and high recoveries for AAs in serum samples. This study presents a feasible approach for the application of COF-based monolithic sorbents in sample preparation.
