Summary: Among Asian breast cancer patients of old age or with advanced cancer stage, the use of SERMs was associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular events compared to the use of AIs, despite the similar risks of MACCEs in the general population. Therefore, individualized assessment of benefits and risks is crucial in choosing the appropriate hormone therapy for breast cancer patients.

Summary: Endometriosis is a chronic uterine disorder that affects women's health, and hormonal drugs are the main medical treatment used to manage the disease based on endocrine and inflammatory changes. The key events causing pain and infertility are estrogen-dependency and progesterone-resistance. Current treatments aim to inhibit menstruation, block the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis, and control the progression of endometriotic implants.

Summary: This study compared the risk of osteoporotic fractures between urban and urban-rural fringe populations in southern China and explored the impact of bone turnover markers on fracture risk. The results showed that the urban-rural fringe populations had lower femoral neck bone mineral density and higher FRAX values compared to urban populations, especially among women. Combining FRAX with bone mineral density and bone turnover markers may provide a better prediction of fracture risk.

Summary: The influence of LIPA on mental health outcomes remains unclear across different age groups. Mixed evidence was found in older adults and adults, while no favorable associations were suggested in college students. Limited data on adolescents and children indicate that LIPA may not influence mental health outcomes in these age groups. Prospective research designs are needed for a better understanding of the role of LIPA on mental ill health.

Summary: For post-menopausal women with estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer, treatment with aromatase inhibitors reduces disease recurrence and mortality compared to tamoxifen, but it also increases the risk of heart failure and cardiovascular events, especially in patients with existing cardiovascular risk factors. The interdisciplinary collaboration between oncologists and cardiologists is crucial in evaluating the risk/benefit ratio of hormone therapy choice.

Summary: In situ-alloyed Ti6Al4V(ELI)-3at.%Cu was successfully manufactured by laser powder bed fusion. Stress relieving and annealing treatments resulted in microstructural changes, with an increase in β phase and CuTi2 intermetallic precipitates. The increase in Cu ions release from the β phase led to antibacterial behavior and inhibited biofilm formation.

Summary: The study examined the association between genetic predisposition, lifestyle factors, and the risk of post-COVID-19 cardiovascular and thromboembolic events (CVE). The results showed that higher polygenic risk scores were associated with increased risks of atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, venous thromboembolism, and ischemic stroke. However, a healthier lifestyle was consistently associated with a reduction in all outcomes. These findings highlight the independent effects of host genetics and lifestyle on the occurrence of CVE complications in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: In England, there are inequalities in testing, vaccination, and COVID-19 outcomes according to ethnicity. Compared with whites, Asian participants have an increased risk of infection and admission, while black participants have almost double the hospitalization risk and a lower vaccine uptake. Chinese participants, on the other hand, have a lower risk of testing positive, testing negative, and receiving vaccination.

Summary: This study found that patients with a new diagnosis of OA can be divided into four clusters based on their comorbidity profile: low-morbidity, back/neck pain plus mental health, metabolic syndrome, and multimorbidity. The 'multimorbidity' cluster had the highest risk of 10-year mortality, followed by the 'metabolic syndrome' cluster and the 'back/neck pain plus mental health' cluster.

Summary: Impact microindentation (IMI) is a novel technique for assessing bone material strength index (BMSi) in vivo. The aim of this study was to define the reference intervals for men and women by evaluating healthy adults from multiple countries. BMSi values ranged from 48 to 101, with mean values of 84.4 +/- 6.9 for men and 79.0 +/- 9.1 for women.

Summary: This study compared the bone material strength index (BMSi) values of men and women from the same geographical location in Australia. The results showed that men had significantly higher BMSi values than women, indicating that male bones are more resistant to indentation. This difference persisted even after adjusting for weight and height. Therefore, BMSi may have predictive value for fractures.
