Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of NX stage on the prognosis of patients with papillary thyroid cancer who underwent thyroid lobectomy. The analysis included 556 patients who underwent thyroid cancer surgery between 2012 and 2015, excluding patients diagnosed with other types of thyroid cancer, those who underwent total or completion thyroidectomy, and those diagnosed with LN metastasis prior to surgery. The results showed that NX stage cannot be considered as a prognostic factor for RFS in patients with papillary thyroid cancer who underwent thyroid lobectomy, but the benefit of prophylactic central-LN dissection should be considered in patients diagnosed with T1b stage.

Summary: A novel nomogram for predicting overall survival and risk stratification in TNBC patients was developed in this study. The results suggested that different adjuvant treatment strategies had varying effects on overall survival in different prognostic subgroups.

Summary: Favorable survival in malignant cutaneous melanoma has led to an increase in the likelihood of developing second primary cancer. A significant proportion of patients developed other SPCs, with higher survival rates observed for women compared to men. Time-dependent analysis showed increased hazard ratios for fatal cancer types, but SPC-specific hazard ratios remained uniform regardless of when the SPC was diagnosed. Additional efforts are needed to improve survival rates for patients with various types of SPCs.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 1,089 NSCLC patients who underwent EBUS-TBNA, revealing significant prognostic impact of eN stage and highlighting the importance of EBUS-TBNA in NSCLC staging. False-negative EBUS-TBNA cases had favorable survival rates similar to patients with pN1, suggesting a rationale for surgery after negative EBUS-TBNA results.

Summary: The study analyzed the long-term outcomes in 170 patients who underwent surgery for pheochromocytoma and sympathetic paraganglioma (PHEO/sPGL). It was found that even apparently benign and sporadic variants had a risk of long-term recurrence, highlighting the importance of lifelong follow-up.

Summary: By analyzing the 5-year relative survival rates of 23 solid cancers in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden over a 50-year period (1970-2019), we found that certain cancers showed a gradual improvement in survival rates, such as melanoma and breast, endometrial, and thyroid cancers. Additionally, oral, oropharyngeal, testicular, and prostate cancers also exhibited significant increases in survival rates. However, lung, esophageal, liver, and other cancers showed only minimal improvement.

Summary: Histopathological substaging of pT1 UBC is significantly associated with tumor progression and overall survival. Tumors classified as T1b and T1c have higher progression rates compared to T1a. Substaging of pT1 UBC is a useful prognostic tool for guiding treatment decisions.

Summary: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare but fatal opportunistic infection mainly occurring in patients with immunosuppressive conditions. Retrospective studies have shown that the survival rate of PML patients is related to HIV infection, and early diagnosis and treatment can improve prognosis.

Summary: Overall survival is reduced in patients with LVNC compared with the expected survival of age- and sex-matched US population. However, survival rate in those with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction and isolated apical noncompaction was comparable with that of the general population.

Summary: This study compared the long-term outcomes of robotic and LG approaches in patients with gastric cancer. The results showed that after balancing covariates, there were no significant differences in long-term survival and recurrence-free survival between the two surgical methods, and robotic gastrectomy showed advantages in reducing blood loss.

Summary: The study developed prediction models for estimating long-term survival in patients who underwent esophageal cancer surgery, including 1-, 3-, and 5-year all-cause mortality, and 3- and 5-year disease-specific mortality. These models showed good performance and may serve as useful tools for guiding patient life planning and postoperative treatment.

Summary: In this study, a robust prognostic nomogram was developed to predict the overall survival of stage IV colorectal cancer patients. The nomogram showed superior predictive ability compared to the traditional TNM staging system, as demonstrated by various evaluation methods and external validation.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the value of risk-adjustment when comparing long-term overall survival (OS) in breast cancer between different regions in Sweden. Risk-adjusted benchmarking of 5- and 10-year OS after HER2-positive early breast cancer diagnosis was performed between two healthcare regions in Sweden. The results showed that there was no significant disparity in OS between the regions after adjusting for age, menopausal status, and tumor biology.
