Magnetorheological finishing, considered as a promising polishing technique that can finish a nano-level smooth surface and free of surface or subsurface damage, has been widely utilized in ultra-smooth polishing of hard-to-machine materials. However, there are still several practical weaknesses in magnetorheological finishing (MRF) applied for wafer surface polishing. In this study, a new method using MRF effect was proposed for wafer polishing. Concretely, porous foam was used as a storage carrier of MR slurry, and thus, MR slurry can be bounded in porous foam in the finishing process (cluster MR-porous foam polishing, CMRPP). In this paper, an experimental rig was constructed to achieve CMRPP mechanism, the processing principle and material removal process in CMRPP were analyzed, and CMRPP experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of porous foam on surface polishing. The results indicate the following: (1) The polishing forces in CMRPP were increased compared to that of a cluster MR polishing without porous foam (CMRP), and CMRPP can get a greater shear force than of CMRP at a same normal force; (2) CMRPP can well hinder the solid-liquid separation and sustain the stability of the slurry performance; (3) CMRPP achieved a higher volumetric removal rate than that of CMRP and improving of material removal efficiency; (4) CMRPP can effectively achieve a nano-level smooth surface compared to that of CMRP.

Strain Sensor with Enhanced Sensitivity for Wearable Electronics Using an Over-Balanced Planar Elastomer

Meng Nie, Lei Wen, Shuning Chen, Lu Ai, Jingcheng Shen, Yu-na Zhao, Kuibo Yin, Guangbin Dou

Summary: The authors have proposed a flexible strain sensor with enhanced sensitivity through the use of an over-balanced planar elastomer (OBPE), increasing the gauge factor by 6 times. This sensor outputs stronger electrical signals for perceiving human motions and the two-step casting fabrication process is cost-effective and suitable for large volume production.

Craniocervical Manual Lymphatic Drainage Increases the Efficiency of Atorvastatin-Based Treatment of Chronic Subdural Hematoma

Chuang Gao, Yingsheng Wei, Xinjie Zhang, Jinhao Huang, Meng Nie, Xuanhui Liu, Jiangyuan Yuan, Dong Wang, Ye Tian, Weiwei Jiang, Shuo An, Jian Sun, Zhuang Sha, Yibing Fan, Jiancheng Feng, Mingqi Liu, Shiying Dong, Di Wu, Jianning Zhang, Junping Wang, Rongcai Jiang

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of craniocervical manual lymphatic drainage (cMLD) on hematoma absorption and the efficiency of atorvastatin-based conservative treatment in patients with chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). The results showed that cMLD, combined with atorvastatin-based therapy, promoted hematoma absorption and reduced the need for surgery. The volume of the deep cervical lymphatic nodes (dCLNs) also significantly increased after 2 weeks of cMLD treatment. No severe side effects were reported.

Effects of cracking on the deformation anisotropy of GaAs with different crystal orientations during scratching using molecular dynamics simulations

Baozhen Li, Jianyong Li, Jinhuan Xu, Tong Xuan, Wengang Fan

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of cracking on the deformation behavior of GaAs with varied crystal orientations during processing. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to scratch GaAs using a diamond indenter with a single asperity in different crystal orientations. The findings provide direct evidence that cracking alters the deformation behavior of GaAs at the atomic level, which is attributed to the distribution of tensile stresses and the fracture surface. This work contributes to a better understanding of the deformation mechanism anisotropy of GaAs in different crystal orientations.

Material removal mechanism in magnetorheological foam plane finishing

Jinhuan Xu, Jianyong Li, Meng Nie, Yueming Liu

Summary: The material removal process of magnetorheological foam plane finishing (MRFPF) method considering various processing conditions was investigated. A material removal rate (MRR) model based on the updating type of workpiece moving trajectory, magnetic field distribution, and polishing speed in the polishing area was established. The MRR is generated by integrating the polishing pressure and speed over the time that polishing pressure on the workpiece updating for 1 cycle, with a relative error between theoretical and experimental results less than 11.63%. Moreover, MRFPF can achieve much higher MRR and surface flatness improvement rate than that of magnetorheological finishing (MRF) under different processing conditions, indicating the effectiveness of MRFPF in planar finishing.

Chaoyue Zhao, Jianyong Li, Yueming Liu

Summary: In the realm of machining, there is a growing demand for improved surface integrity of workpieces. Abrasive belt grinding offers advantages such as high grinding ratio, superior surface finish quality, and lower grinding temperature. Triangular pyramid-shaped abrasive grains enhance the efficacy of this method and have played an important role in precision machining. Accurately predicting the grinding force is crucial for improving processing quality.

Summary: This study presents high-precision measurements of elliptic, triangular, and quadrangular flow for identified hadrons in Au+Au collisions. The results show similar flow patterns between light and strange mesons, suggesting that the heavier strange quarks flow as strongly as the lighter up and down quarks. The study also finds that the number-of-constituent-quark scaling holds within statistical uncertainty in different collision centrality intervals.

Summary: The STAR collaboration presents jet substructure measurements related to both the momentum fraction and the opening angle within jets in p p and Au + Au collisions ats root S-NN = 200 GeV. The substructure observables include SoftDrop groomed momentum fraction (z(g)), groomed jet radius (R-g), and subjet momentum fraction (Z(SJ)) and opening angle (theta(SJ)). The latter observable is introduced for the first time. The subjet observables are shown to be more robust to the background than z(g) and R-g. We observe no significant modifications of the subjet observables within the two highest-energy, back-to-back jets, resulting in a distribution of opening angles and the splittings that are vacuumlike. We find no qualitative differences in energy loss signatures for varying angular scales in the range 0.1 < theta(SJ) < 0.3, leading to the possible interpretation that energy loss in this population of high-momentum dijet pairs, is due to soft medium-induced gluon radiation from a single color charge as it traverses the medium.

Summary: Fe-MOFs were prepared and tested as an adsorbing material for the removal of Rhodamine B from aqueous solutions. The results showed that Fe-MOFs had a high adsorption capacity at pH 6, making them feasible for wastewater purification.

Summary: By performing a blind analysis on a large data sample of isobar collisions, the STAR Collaboration found no evidence of the chiral magnetic effect (CME). Differences in multiplicity and flow harmonics suggest that the CME background varies between different species.
