Summary: Bronchial hyperresponsiveness may be considered as a predictor of cough variant asthma in non-smoking adults with chronic cough, showing a high positive predictive value in this population. Cough severity and cough related quality of life were not related to the severity of bronchial hyperresponsiveness in CVA patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of bronchial thermoplasty (BT) for cough in severe uncontrolled asthma. The results showed that BT significantly improved cough-related indices and cough sensitivity, especially in patients with cough-predominant symptoms. However, larger cohort studies are needed to confirm the effect of BT for cough in asthma.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between the inflammatory phenotypes of CVA and treatment response, finding that the diversity of phenotypes was not related to treatment response, but a high neutrophil count in sputum may predict a poor response to anti-asthmatic therapy.

Summary: Cough variant asthma (CVA) is distinct from classic asthma (CA) in terms of clinical features, lung function, and airway inflammation. Despite better asthma control scores, quality of life is severely impaired in CVA.

Summary: The study estimated the prevalence and determinants of BHR in Hanoi, Vietnam, and found BHR to be more common in this region compared to other parts of Southeast Asia. PC20 ≤ 2 mg/ml was associated with FEV1 <80% predicted, while PC20 ≤ 2 mg/ml was associated with multi-sensitization to airborne allergens.

Summary: Type 2-high severe asthma is a distinct subtype characterized by Th2 inflammation, high eosinophil lung infiltration, impaired lung function, and reduced corticosteroid sensitivity. Acute and chronic allergen models induce type 2 inflammation, but the differences in corticosteroid sensitivity remain unclear. This study found that chronic allergen exposure is associated with more persistent type 2 immune responses and corticosteroid insensitivity.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the functional role of a long non-coding RNA MALAT1 in the expression and development of bronchial smooth muscle (BSM) hyper-contractility. The findings suggest that MALAT1 positively regulates RhoA protein expression by inhibiting miR-133a-3p in BSM cells, leading to augmented BSM contractility. These findings are of great significance for understanding the pathological mechanisms of airway hyper-responsiveness.

Summary: The study aimed to establish a correlation between persistent cough and asthma diagnosis and its severity, finding that patients with persistent cough may have more severe asthma diagnosis and poor treatment responsiveness. The results showed that patients with persistent cough, especially those positive to allergens such as cat dander, dog dander, house dust, Alternaria tenuis, or lamb's quarter, may present with more severe asthma.

Summary: Bronchial thermoplasty can significantly reduce severe exacerbations, hospitalizations, emergency department visits, and corticosteroid usage in patients with severe asthma even after a 5-year follow-up. Clinical improvement was observed in all subgroups regardless of baseline clinical and biomarker characteristics.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility and constraints of predicting patient-specific response to bronchial thermoplasty using a computational model informed by pretreatment CT scans. The predictions were compared with functional outcomes and posttreatment CT scans. This has the potential to form the basis for improved clinical practice.

Summary: The study found that allergic sensitisation does not affect bronchial hyperresponsiveness in children without respiratory symptoms. However, sensitisation was associated with BHR, as measured by the methacholine test and the free-running test.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the risk of developing persistent cough and asthma-like symptoms in hospitalized children due to COVID-19. The results showed that a family history of asthma, previous history of asthma, and allergic rhinitis are risk factors for developing asthma-like symptoms after COVID-19 hospitalization.

Summary: This systematic review found that factors such as asthma, wheezing, bronchial hyper-responsiveness, and early-life allergic sensitization can impact the development of large and small airway lung function in early childhood, potentially leading to lower levels of lung function growth. However, in later childhood, even with the presence of asthma or wheezing, lung function development continues at a lower level but largely tracks parallel to individuals without these conditions.

Summary: This article presents an automatic non-contact cough detector designed for night audio recordings, which can distinguish coughs from other sounds. Two different classifiers, Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Deep Neural Network (DNN), were implemented and tested. The DNN-based system outperformed the GMM-based system in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. The study found that cough events were more frequent during wakefulness and had a positive correlation with BMI and severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in men. This non-contact cough detection system can be used to track respiratory illnesses and test medication reactions at night, even when a contact sensor is uncomfortable or impractical.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using FENO, sEOS%, FEF25-75% predicted value, and FEF25-75% z-scores as surrogate markers predicting BHR in young adults with suspected CVA. The results demonstrated that these markers have good diagnostic value in predicting BHR in patients with suspected CVA.

Summary: In this case, clinical and radiological deterioration occurred despite a decrease in viral load, suggesting that deterioration was caused by reactivation of proinflammatory factors rather than direct viral effects. IVIg treatment not only provides immunosuppressive effects but also inhibits proinflammatory cytokines.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness and safety of EGFR-TKI rechallenge after first-line treatment in elderly patients with NSCLC harboring drug-sensitive EGFR mutations. The results showed that EGFR-TKI rechallenge treatment was a limited, safe, and effective treatment option for elderly EGFR-positive lung cancer patients after first-line treatment.
