Summary: The main problems with non-programmable generation systems, particularly photovoltaic systems, are related to the stability of power systems in terms of angle and frequency. New regulations have been introduced to ensure that distributed generation participates in network stability by providing ancillary services such as voltage and frequency regulation. Italian standards require residential PV inverters to have the capability to absorb or supply reactive energy in order to mitigate voltage problems. In response to these requirements, manufacturers have made changes to allow residential inverters on the market to adjust the power factor.
