Summary: This study evaluated the empirical support for environmental stress models (ESMs) and found that consumer pressure on prey typically decreases with increasing environmental stress (consumer stress model; CSM), while prey pressure on consumers (prey stress model; PSM) occurs less frequently. This contrasts with a prior survey, suggesting that consumers are generally more suppressed by stress than prey. Therefore, increased climate change-induced environmental stress is likely to reduce the impacts of consumers on prey more often than the reverse.

Summary: Arsenic-contaminated groundwater is a global threat that impacts human health, especially for populations relying on private wells. Establishing an effective arsenic sampling and testing plan is crucial for mitigating health risks. The spatially adaptive sampling design method can effectively sample based on changes in contamination risk clusters, reducing arsenic risks.

Summary: Arsenic-bearing water treatment residuals from household sand filters can act as a secondary source of arsenic contamination in floodplain soils when disposed on top of the soil. Our study found that the soil provides bioavailable components that promote arsenic mobilization through microbial reduction, and the mobilization of arsenic as colloids is particularly important at the onset of reducing conditions but decreases over time.

Summary: This study explores how people use mental models to understand scientific information in the context of COVID-19 and apply it to their daily lives and behavior. The results show that people interpret medical and scientific words differently and have varying perceptions and behaviors related to health risk information. Therefore, targeted and balanced risk communication strategies are necessary in public health risk communication.

Summary: This study explores how fire management authorities can involve nonexpert public in the fire risk communication process and increase their responsibility for effective fire management. The research findings suggest that although fire management authorities collaborate with stakeholders and use various communication methods, their efforts are not successful. Micro-entrepreneurs, on the other hand, seek to improve fire management outcomes through attitude change, law enforcement actions, strengthened security, and increased public trust. The study has implications for policymakers and risk communication authorities in developing countries to strengthen fire disaster policies and minimize the damaging effects of fire on livelihoods, businesses, properties, and environments.

Summary: Despite the growing interest in science communication and public engagement, there is a significant gap between theory and practice in the scientific community. The field of science engagement is fragmented, with knowledge spread across different discourses. This article introduces the ECO framework, which integrates evidence and theory from various discourses to promote effective science engagement practices. By planning engagement activities with attention to three key modes of engagement, scientists and research organizations can better address the need for stronger connections between science and society.

Summary: The study found that environmental communication research has received widespread attention since the beginning of the 21st century, with 2010 being an important turning point, showing a trend towards interdisciplinary development. Climate change, as a hot issue, has attracted the most attention, but there is still a lack of international cooperation in the field.

Summary: Communities affected by environmental exposures and health disparities recognize the role of racism in shaping these risks. More researchers are focusing on racism as a fundamental driver of racial inequities in environmental health. Research and funding institutions are committed to addressing structural racism. This article discusses strategies for taking explicitly antiracist approaches to community engagement in environmental health research.

Summary: Arsenic, a naturally occurring metalloid that can be metabolized inside human body, is pervasive in nature and anthropogenic sources, leading to human exposure to this toxic and carcinogenic element. Approximately 200 million people worldwide are exposed to potentially toxic levels of arsenic, prompting substantial research and mitigation efforts to combat this extensive public health issue.

Summary: Researching mental health issues and barriers to care among refugees in urban areas of Turkey presents challenges such as collecting data from a highly traumatized population, contacting undocumented asylum seekers, managing secondary traumatization risks among data collectors, and dealing with bureaucracy during study approval processes. Targeting a representative sample is difficult due to lack of demographic data, presence of undocumented asylum seekers, and high mobility among refugees.

Summary: Personalized polygenic risk information can be effectively communicated through genetic counselor phone calls to guide risk-based melanoma prevention and early detection. The acceptability of these phone calls was generally high, but varied based on gender, health literacy, and polygenic risk group. The discussions during the calls mainly focused on the impact of past sun exposure on personal melanoma risk.
