Summary: This study used factor analysis to predict clinically important gain in HUI3 scores in adult cochlear implant recipients, finding that baseline telephone use and HUI3 attribute levels were significantly associated with gains. While SSQ scores increased significantly regardless of HUI3 gains, those who experienced difficulty communicating or were unhappy were more likely to benefit from the intervention. The SSQ scale was found to be more sensitive to hearing improvements post-cochlear implantation, suggesting it as a potential biomarker for candidacy assessment.

Summary: A case-control study investigated anatomical predisposing factors for external iliac artery endofibrosis (EIAE), finding that hypertrophy of the psoas muscle at the L5 level is associated with symptomatic EIAE, and preferential hypertrophy of the affected side correlates with improved outcomes.

Summary: This study analyzed risk factors for extrusion of orbital implants after evisceration. Endophthalmitis, endogenous endophthalmitis, orbital cellulitis, implant size, and hydroxyapatite implant were identified as risk factors for implant extrusion. Orbital cellulitis was the only risk factor for extrusion in multiple logistic regression analysis.

Summary: Microanatomical evaluation of cochlear implant (CI) patients revealed that CI insertion trauma is associated with a significantly higher narrowing of the proximal basal cochlea turn (BCT). The cochlear geometry index (CGI), as a reliable clinically applicable parameter for identifying patients at increased risk for scalar translocation, is determined by the percentual tapering of the BCT.

Summary: Nearly half of all pregnancies in India have one or more high-risk factors, and the risks are higher among vulnerable populations. Addressing the leading high-risk factors should be a priority in health policy and programs.

Summary: This study assessed the risk factors for early implant failure (EIF) following sinus augmentation in a challenging cohort. The results showed that smoking, ASA 2 physical status classification, general anesthesia, low residual alveolar bone height, and multiple implants are risk factors for EIF.

Summary: The study found that in adults aged 45 and older, the incidence of diabetes is significantly higher among Black individuals compared to White individuals. Adjusting for age and prediabetes, Black women had a higher risk of diabetes compared to White women, and Black men had a higher risk compared to White men. The individual factors that had the most impact on attenuating the racial disparity were dietary patterns and neighborhood socioeconomic environment for men, and BMI and waist circumference for women. Overall, after considering all factors, the racial disparity in diabetes incidence was similar for men and attenuated for women.

Summary: Based on the COPDB study in Beijing, it was found that ozone, Cd, UFPs, Acc, PAHs exposure, and RH variation were high-risk factors for systemic inflammation in COPD patients. These high-risk factors differed from those in the general population.

Summary: This case-control study investigated the individual and concomitant risk factors for hearing loss in neonatal care. The results showed that lower birth weight for gestational age, more severe neonatal illness, increased medication exposure, and physiological risk factors were associated with hearing loss.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in anatomic risk factors associated with patellar instability during skeletal growth and development, finding significant age-related changes and differences between male and female patients. These findings suggest that most anatomic risk factors for patellar instability change with maturity, reducing the risk of instability and dislocation. The study also highlights the importance of age in assessing injury risk and the need for further research on intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect the development of these anatomic features.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between optimism and social support on spiritual well-being in cancer patients initiating chemotherapy, finding significant differences based on various factors such as age, gender, marital status, employment, and treatment type. It was concluded that optimism and social support have positive effects on spiritual coping during oncological treatment, which can aid in identifying individuals at risk for adapting poorly to the disease.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the correlation between socioeconomic, environmental and clinical features associated with major depression (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD) and schizophrenia (SHZ) in the Pakistani population. MDD was found to be more prevalent than BD and SHZ, and females with BD and SHZ had an earlier age at onset, especially those with a positive family history. The study also found significant associations between aggression, tobacco use, drugs abuse, history of head injuries and family history with BD, while insomnia and suicidality were significantly associated with MDD.

Summary: Tracheostomy is a common procedure performed for various indications. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between obstructive pulmonary diseases and acute post-tracheostomy complications. A retrospective chart review was conducted, and patient factors and complications were analyzed. The results showed that obstructive sleep apnea was associated with acute complications, while chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma were not.
