Summary: This study examined the relationship between sedentary behavior, mood, and type of cognitive load in daily life. Findings showed that sedentary bouts negatively affected energetic arousal and valence, and cognitive load influenced energetic arousal and calmness. The results suggest that sedentary behavior is a significant risk factor for mental health, and engaging in mentally active activities is beneficial for mood.

Summary: This study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and validity of multimodal ambulatory monitoring in assessing daily activity and health-related symptoms among stroke survivors. The results showed that the monitoring method was feasible and acceptable, with high compliance rates. The multimodal monitoring correlated with retrospective self-reports, indicating its validity in capturing daily activity.

Summary: This systematic scoping review synthesized literature on the use of EMA methods among MSM, finding strong evidence for feasibility and acceptability of EMA interventions in this group, especially in studying psychological and behavioral outcomes. Results also indicated that certain event-contingent prompts may not effectively engage participants, suggesting the need for further research on optimal designs for EMA interventions for MSM.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between context at home and adolescent sedentary time using real-time data capture methods. The findings revealed that being alone and indoors at home were positively associated with sedentary time. Adjusted sedentary time was not related to subsequent positive affect, indicating other factors may influence adolescent's positive affect in home settings.

Summary: Recent research suggests that higher temperatures may adversely affect mental health and increase hospitalization for mental illness. This study investigates the associations between ambient temperatures and daily mood, as well as the variables that modify this association. The findings show that higher temperatures are associated with a lower probability of having a bad mood in the general population, but individuals with certain psychiatric disorders may exhibit altered responses to heat.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the feasibility of simultaneous monitoring of physical activity, sleep, symptoms, and functioning in patients with psychosis using an actigraphy watch and experience sampling method smartphone app. The results showed that the majority of patients used the app and watch during the instructed timeframe and were positive about their use. Therefore, these novel methods can provide more valid insight for clinical practice and future research to improve individualized treatment and prediction.

Summary: This study found that affectively-charged motivations for physical activity vary throughout the day and are associated with different levels of activity intensity. People tend to have lower affective motivations in the morning and at random times, but higher motivations for planned activity and in the evening. Importantly, individuals with higher morning affective motivations engage in more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between changes in state mindfulness, cognitive interference, and mental health outcomes in a mindfulness intervention with college students. Results show that changes in day-to-day mindfulness predict changes in cognitive interference, which in turn impact depression and well-being. The effects of state mindfulness are demonstrated over a four-day lag and are found to be crucial in the effectiveness of mindfulness interventions. Physical activity, sleep, and practice quality do not mediate the effects. Maintaining or restoring high levels of mindfulness is therefore important for mental health and well-being.

Summary: By combining ecological momentary assessment measures of fatigue with accelerometer-based physical activity, this study found bidirectional associations between fatigue and physical activity in individuals with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Furthermore, these associations differ among participants. Given these findings, personalized rehabilitation strategies that target both fatigue and physical activity are important for individuals with SAH.

Summary: This study examined the within-person associations between momentary loneliness and anxiety among older adults and found significant bidirectional associations at the contemporaneous and momentary cross-lagged timescales. However, loneliness and anxiety were not significantly associated from day to day. The findings shed light on the complex temporal ordering of loneliness and anxiety in daily life and suggest the potential for interventions targeting key moments.
