Summary: Differences in occurrence, severity, and distress ratings for 32 symptoms between younger older adults (YOA) and older adults (OA) at initiation of chemotherapy were evaluated. Older patients reported a moderate symptom burden, and the symptoms with the highest occurrence rates were not always the most severe or the most distressing. Evaluation of different dimensions of the symptom experience (occurrence, severity, and distress) is necessary for older oncology patients.

Summary: Through a secondary analysis of data from 1784 postpartum women, this study identified five subgroups with different symptoms experiences. Women in Subgroups 4 and 5 had higher depressive symptoms at 18 and 24 months and lower well-being at 24 months. The findings suggest that targeted interventions should be provided for postpartum women in high-symptom subgroups.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence, severity, distress, and management of symptoms among patients with COPD, CHF, and ESRD. The results showed that lack of energy, pain, numbness, difficulty sleeping, and shortness of breath were highly prevalent symptoms among these patients. Some symptoms were severe and highly distressing. The study suggests that introducing palliative care and designing chronic disease self-management programs can improve patients' quality of life.

Summary: The study aims to identify subgroups of oncology patients with distinct depressive symptom profiles and evaluate the differences in demographic and clinical characteristics, levels of stress and resilience, and the severity of common co-occurring symptoms. The findings suggest that inter-individual variability in depressive symptoms is associated with various factors, such as demographic and clinical characteristics, stress levels, resilience, and severity of co-occurring symptoms.

Summary: Little is known about the genetic characteristics associated with exercise in women undergoing breast cancer surgery. In this study, researchers evaluated the differences in demographic and clinical characteristics between breast cancer patients who did and did not exercise regularly. They also analyzed the associations between genetic polymorphisms in cytokine-related genes and exercise behavior. The study found that only 23.5% of the patients met the recommended exercise level and identified specific characteristics and genetic variations associated with not engaging in regular exercise. The findings suggest that genetic factors may play a role in exercise behavior and highlight the importance of assessing barriers to exercise and educating patients on its benefits.

Summary: Patients with cancer experience acute declines in physical function, which may be due to cancer-related symptoms and cancer treatments. This study examined the long-term trajectories of physical function among older cancer survivors and cancer-free controls. The results showed that cancer survivors experienced accelerated declines in physical function after diagnosis, and their physical function remained below that of age-matched controls even years later.
