Summary: This study presents an innovative and cost-effective approach for producing patient-specific 3D anatomical models for simulation and training. Three hepatic surgeries were planned using 3D simulators built with 3D printing and silicone moulding techniques. The 3D physical models accurately replicated the actual condition and were more cost-effective compared to other models. This research demonstrates the value of manufacturing accurate and cost-effective 3D-printed surgical planning simulators for liver cancer treatment.

Summary: The Constrained Mixture Model is a novel approach to describe arterial wall mechanics, which considers the arterial wall as a mixture of load-bearing constituents and determines its material parameters and deposition stretch values through an iterative fitting procedure. Experimental data is used to calibrate the model and establish a strong consistency between the model and experimental data.

Summary: We propose a novel methodology for identifying parameters of compartmental epidemiological models by fitting model outputs to real observations through a multi-objective optimization problem. We use the ParWASF-GA optimization algorithm to solve the defined problem and allow the decision maker to choose the parameter values that best suit their preferences. The proposed methodology is applied to estimate the parameters of a deterministic epidemiological model for forecasting the spread of human diseases, and it helps obtain reasonable predictions in different Ebola outbreaks from 2014 to 2019.

Summary: In this study, the authors modeled the tumor evolutionary trajectories during standard-of-care treatment for glioblastoma using multi-omic single-cell analysis. They identified a network of regulators that mediate treatment-induced shifts in tumor cell states and developed consensus networks that modulate cell state transitions across primary and recurrent tumor cells. By matching targeted therapies to active regulatory networks, they proposed a framework for applying single-cell-based precision medicine approaches to individual patients in different treatment settings.

Summary: A flexible problem-specific multiscale topology optimization method is proposed to associate different areas of the design domain with diverse microstructures extracted from a dictionary. The dictionary is generated using the micro-SIMPATY algorithm, which promotes free-form layout design. The method is applied to the design of orthotic devices for the treatment of foot diseases and validated in terms of mechanical performances and manufacturability.

Summary: The study found that supplementary oxygen can increase oxygen availability during corneal cross-linking. At higher irradiances, supplementary oxygen is beneficial and eliminates the bottleneck of oxygen allowing for potentially more efficient cross-linking. The calibrated numerical model can quantify spatial oxygen concentration related to different scenarios such as irradiance or environmental oxygen concentration.

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine the normative bone mineral density (BMD) of cortical and trabecular bone regions in the adult glenoid and its dependence on the subject's age and sex. The study found that glenoid BMD was higher in males than females and declined with age. These findings are clinically relevant in the diagnosis and management of shoulder disorders and related research.

Summary: Although corneal biomechanics plays an important role in ophthalmology, its characterization remains limited due to tissue availability. This study aimed to quantify the change in mechanical response of porcine corneas after 6 days of storage either at -20 degrees C or in standard culture medium. The results showed that the mechanical response were not altered by any of the preservation methods, but storage in culture medium resulted in increased standard deviation and significant swelling.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of using non-invasive medical imaging to predict the methylation status of the MGMT gene. By analyzing a large and heterogeneous dataset, the features derived from FLAIR images were found to be the most informative for MGMT prediction. Additionally, the imaging characteristics of the tumor region can affect the performance of the prediction models.

Summary: The majority of studies in the field of radiomics use contours from radiotherapy planning, which often overestimate the true tumoral volume. This study compares the performance of models using two types of contours and finds that using dedicated contours that accurately represent the tumor volume is important for predicting progression-free survival in radiomics studies.
