Elective egg freezing and male support: a qualitative study of men's roles in women's fertility preservation

Marcia C. Inhorn, Daphna Birenbaum-Carmeli, Pasquale Patrizio

Summary: Although the main reason for women to pursue elective egg freezing is often the lack of a male partner, nearly two-thirds of women in the study still relied on some form of male support during their decision-making processes and procedures. Male support came in various forms and provided assistance in different categories, indicating the 'hidden' roles men play in supporting women's reproductive aspirations.

A Nuclear and Cytoplasmic Characterization of Bovine Oocytes Reveals That Cysteamine Partially Rescues the Embryo Development in a Model of Low Ovarian Reserve

Valentina Lodde, Alberto Maria Luciano, Giulia Musmeci, Ileana Miclea, Irene Tessaro, Mariella Aru, David F. Albertini, Federica Franciosi

Summary: Women's reproductive performance declines starting in midlife, with a very low possibility of pregnancy by age 40-45. Premature ovarian failure and early ovarian aging can lead to low-quality eggs, impacting fertility. Understanding cellular mechanisms is essential for finding solutions to reproductive aging issues.

Long-term storage of gametes and gonadal tissues at room temperatures: the end of the ice age?

Pierre Comizzoli, Pasqualino Loi, Pasquale Patrizio, Allison Hubel

Summary: Long-term preservation of high-quality sperm, eggs, embryos, and gonadal tissues is crucial for human reproductive medicine and population management. Research suggests that suspending gametes or gonadal tissues in trehalose glass after dehydration and storing them at supra-zero temperatures can be an alternative to freezing.

Molecular and Histological Evaluation of Sheep Ovarian Tissue Subjected to Lyophilization

Daniela Bebbere, Amir Arav, Stefano Mario Nieddu, Giovanni Pietro Burrai, Sara Succu, Pasquale Patrizio, Sergio Ledda

Summary: Freeze-drying is a method for preserving cells and tissues, offering cost savings and improved stability; sheep ovarian tissue survived the process, maintaining its structure and responding to specific genes.

Preliminary report of intraovarian injections of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in extremely poor prognosis patients with only oocyte donation as alternative: a prospective cohort study

D. H. Barad, D. F. Albertini, E. Molinari, N. Gleicher

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of intraovarian injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on ovarian function in patients with extremely low functional ovarian reserve (LFOR). The results showed that PRP treatment did not have clinically significant effects on ovarian function over a 1-year follow-up period. However, two patients with poor prognosis achieved pregnancy after PRP treatment. The study suggests that sporadic pregnancies are possible even in extremely poor prognosis patients due to LFOR, but further research is needed to determine the role of PRP treatments in these pregnancies.

Egg Freezing at the End of Romance: A Technology of Hope, Despair, and Repair

Marcia C. Inhorn, Daphna Birenbaum-Carmeli, Ruoxi Yu, Pasquale Patrizio

Summary: Recent studies have shown that highly educated professional women in their late thirties to early forties are turning to egg freezing as a method of fertility preservation while waiting for a suitable male partner. For many women, egg freezing offers a new hope for future relationships, but it can also be viewed as a technology of despair following the breakdown of a relationship.

Cryopreserving Jewish Motherhood: Egg Freezing in Israel and the United States

Daphna Birenbaum-Carmeli, Marcia C. Inhorn, Mira D. Vale, Pasquale Patrizio

Summary: Egg freezing is increasingly popular among Jewish women in Israel and the United States, as it addresses medical and marital uncertainties and preserves Jewish motherhood. It serves as a protective self-preservation technology within their pronatalist social environments.

A form of secondary ovarian insufficiency (SOI) due to adrenal hypoandrogenism as new infertility diagnosis

Norbert Gleicher, Sarah Darmon, Emanuela Molinari, Lin Zhang, Jianjun Hu, David F. Albertini, David H. Barad

Summary: This study found that young women under the age of 41 with adrenal hypoandrogenism may actually suffer from secondary ovarian insufficiency (SOI) rather than primary ovarian insufficiency (POI). In some cases, this condition could be treated with androgen supplementation.
