Summary: This study aimed to understand how people with diabetes seek online health information and use health applications, and to investigate the relationship between mobile eHealth literacy (mobile eHL) and diabetes outcomes in Taiwanese patients with type 2 diabetes. The study found that although patients with diabetes who rated their health conditions as moderate were confident in using mobile eHealth and technology, few adopted these tools in their daily lives. Mobile eHL had a direct effect on self-care behavior as well as knowledge and skills of computers, the internet, and mobile technology, and had an indirect effect on health outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of an electronic medical record-integrated mobile app on glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The mobile app showed short-term efficacy in glycemic control, but the effect decreased over time. Most participants were satisfied with using the app.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between diabetes health literacy, self-efficacy, and self-care behaviors with glycemic control in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in northern Thai communities. The results showed a strong correlation between diabetes health literacy and self-efficacy, self-care behaviors, as well as kidney function and glycated hemoglobin levels. Linear regression analysis demonstrated a negative association between diabetes health literacy and glycemic control. Therefore, implementing health literacy programs to enhance self-efficacy expectations is crucial for improving diabetes preventive care behaviors and glycemic control.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the neuropsychological outcomes of individuals with different types of diabetes and those without diabetes. Results showed that individuals with type 2 diabetes had the highest prevalence of neuropsychological outcomes, but the presence of microvascular/macrovascular complications significantly increased the risk for all patients.

Summary: This study investigated the self-care behavior, depression, and self-efficacy among elderly Chinese type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. The results showed that only 22.5% of patients reported good self-care behavior, and depression partly mediated the association between self-efficacy and self-care behavior. Self-efficacy was negatively associated with depression and depression was negatively associated with self-care behavior. Therefore, interventions focusing on self-efficacy may improve diabetes self-care behavior among elderly T2DM patients.

Summary: Young Belgian adults with Crohn's disease for over 5 years have similar and sufficient health literacy compared to patients with type 1 diabetes. However, Crohn's disease patients requiring hospitalization or surgery have lower health literacy, indicating the need for targeted educational programs.

Summary: This study confirms the importance of health literacy, empowerment, and self-care activities in improving the quality of life and glycemic control in people with T2D. The findings highlight the role of communicative health literacy and suggest that empowerment approaches and flexible self-care strategies can be effective interventions. Enhancing health literacy is recommended to promote empowerment and self-care activities in people with T2D.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and associated factors among patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in a tertiary care hospital in Ethiopia. The study found that patients with T2DM had lower HRQoL compared to the general population. Older age, longer duration of diabetes, insulin use, obesity, inadequate glycemic control, and diabetes-related complications were identified as significant negative predictors of HRQoL.

Summary: The study found that female patients were more likely to report poor overall DSM practices compared to male patients, while those with secondary and university education reported lower odds of poor DSM practices. Older patients were more likely to report poor physical health quality of life. Therefore, efforts should be intensified to provide culturally appropriate DSM education to patients and empower them to take charge of their health.

Summary: The study found that depressive symptoms indirectly predicted higher HbA1c four years later among T1DM patients, while anxiety symptoms did not. Depressive symptoms were associated with suboptimal self-care behavior and glycemic outcomes, while anxiety symptoms did not have this predictive ability.

Summary: This study aimed to explore HCWs perceptions on factors affecting diabetes self-management among T2DM patients of Fiji. The findings demonstrated that health system challenges such as lack of material resources and human resources compounded the factors affecting diabetes self-management. HCWs training as diabetes educators and developing policy on diabetes self-management are highly recommended to facilitate diabetes self-management.

Summary: The study found that negative emotional experience is positively related to diabetes-related distress, while the skill at regulating these emotions is negatively related to diabetes-related distress, with a medium-size relationship between these emotional regulation variables and diabetes-related distress. The data suggest that diabetes-related distress in adults with diabetes is meaningfully linked to negative emotionality and skill at regulating such emotions, with a stronger relationship than perceived psychological stress or diabetes self-care.

Summary: This study explores the impact of health literacy, social support, and self-efficacy on self-management behaviors of pregnant women with GDM, as well as the interrelationships between these variables. The results show that health literacy, social support, and self-efficacy have positive effects on self-management behaviors. Specifically, functional HL, communicative HL, critical HL, social support, and self-efficacy all independently influence self-management behaviors. The SEM model confirms the direct positive effects of health literacy on self-management behaviors and self-efficacy, and the direct positive effects of social support on health literacy and self-efficacy.

Summary: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Diabetes Knowledge Test (DKT2). The results showed that the DKT2 had a poor unidimensional structure with low person reliability and separation index. Females and elderly individuals found certain items more difficult to respond to. Caution should be exercised when using the DKT2 in practice and research.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the direct and indirect relationship between Type D personality and adverse health outcomes (glycated haemoglobin and health-related quality of life) in people with type 2 diabetes, specifically through the mediating factors of diabetes distress and social isolation. A secondary analysis of data from 524 participants with type 2 diabetes was conducted using the PROCESS macro of SPSS. The results showed that 31.3% of participants had Type D personality, which had a direct effect on health-related quality of life but not on glycated haemoglobin. Type D personality indirectly affected both glycated haemoglobin and health-related quality of life through the mediators of diabetes distress and social isolation.

Summary: This study evaluated the internal structure of the Health-Related Quality of Life Instrument with Eight Items (HINT-8) and found it to have satisfactory validity and consistency. However, the interpretation of HINT-8 scores varies across different sociodemographic groups, making comparisons difficult. On the other hand, the interpretation of HINT-8 remains consistent for individuals with or without certain medical conditions.
