Co-precipitation method employing two precipitants, oxalic acid and ammonium oxalate, has been used to synthesize Li1.2Ni0.13Co0.13Mn0.54O2. Various calcination temperatures are also compared to obtain the material with better properties. By optimizing the precipitant and calcination temperature, the material prepared by oxalic acid at 900 degrees C has good layered structure, small particle size (200-300 nm), and uniform distribution of particles. A high first discharge specific capacity of 298.4 mAh g(-1) and a high first Coulombic efficiency of 77.2% at 0.1 C are obtained. After 50 cycles, the reversible discharge specific capacity is 272.2 mAh g(-1) with a capacity retention of 91.2%.
