We examined differences in patients' survival after hip fracture (HF) and risk for subsequent HF among patients treated with oral and intravenous bisphosphonates (oBPs, iBPs), denosumab (DMAB), and patients without therapy. We used data from all patients in Austria aged >= 50 who sustained a HF between 2012 and 2017 and were followed for a subsequent HF and all-cause mortality until 2017. Antiosteoporotic treatment-naive patients, who were incident users of BPs and DMAB, were eligible for propensity score matching 1:1 to obtain comparable user groups. We applied competing risk approach and calculated cumulative incidence functions and subdistribution-hazards for refracture. Cox regression models were applied for mortality risk. A total of 54,145 hip-fractured patients were observed (1919 oBPs; 1870 iBPs; 555 DMAB users; and 42,795 untreated patients were included in the matched sets) and followed up for a median (interquartile range) of 22.6 months (26.2). Patients treated with antiresorptive medications had significantly longer survival time than patients without treatment. Receiving treatment significantly decreased a hazard of dying only for women by 17% for iBPs (HR 0.83, 95% CI 0.71-0.98, p = 0.023). For DMAB and oBPs, the results were not statistically significant. Higher risk of a subsequent HF was observed in women on DMAB (SHR 1.77, 95% CI 1.08-2.91) and on iBP (SHR 1.81, 95% CI 1.35-2.41), and in men on oBPs (SHR 2.89, 95% CI 1.58-5.30). Patients who were treated with antiresorptive medications after HF had longer survival than patients without treatment, highlighting the importance of initiation of antiresorptive treatment after HF.

American College of Rheumatology/EULAR remission criteria for rheumatoid arthritis: 2022 revision

Paul Studenic, Daniel Aletaha, Maarten de Wit, Tanja A. Stamm, Farideh Alasti, Diane Lacaille, Josef S. Smolen, David T. Felson

Summary: This study aimed to externally validate a revised Boolean remission criteria using a higher patient global assessment (PtGA) threshold and validate the provisionally endorsed index-based criteria. The results showed that using the higher PtGA threshold increased the proportion of patients classified as achieving remission under the "Boolean2.0" criteria, improved agreement with index-based criteria, and did not compromise predictive value for radiographic or functional outcomes. The study findings were endorsed by ACR and EULAR.

Summary: The revised Boolean remission criteria, using a higher patient global assessment threshold, classify more patients as achieving remission and increase the agreement with index-based remission criteria without jeopardizing predictive value for radiographic or functional outcomes.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE FIRST STEPS OF IMPLEMENTING VALUE-BASED ORAL HEALTH CARE: A CASE STUDY FROM THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF VIENNA

Maisa Omara, Tanja Stamm, Katrin Bekes

Summary: The aim of this study was to describe the challenges and opportunities of implementing dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs) in clinical care and to determine lessons learned and next steps for implementation. The results showed that integrating dPROMs in clinical settings is achievable and is an important first step towards implementing value-based oral healthcare (VBOHC).

The Timing of Pregnancies After Bariatric Surgery has No Impact on Children's Health-a Nationwide Population-based Registry Analysis

Hannes Beiglbock, Eric Morth, Berthold Reichardt, Tanja Stamm, Bianca Itariu, Jurgen Harreiter, Jakob Eichelter, Gerhard Prager, Alexandra Kautzky-Willer, Peter Wolf, Michael Krebs

Summary: Bariatric surgery has a positive effect on fertility in women, but the ideal time for conception following the surgery is still unknown. This study analyzed the health outcomes in children born to mothers who had undergone bariatric surgery, and found that the surgery-to-delivery interval did not have a significant impact on the health outcome of the children.

Determinants of COVID-19 vaccine fatigue

Tanja A. Stamm, Julia Partheymueller, Erika Mosor, Valentin Ritschl, Sylvia Kritzinger, Alessia Alunno, Jakob-Moritz Eberl

Summary: Findings from two conjoint experiments conducted in Austria and Italy revealed that tailored vaccination campaigns based on previous vaccination status are more effective. For the unvaccinated, campaign messages conveying community spirit had a positive effect, while offering positive incentives was pivotal to the decision-making of those vaccinated once or twice. Among the triple vaccinated, vaccination readiness increased when adapted vaccines were offered, but costs and medical dissensus reduced their likelihood to get vaccinated. Failing to mobilize the triple vaccinated is likely to result in booster vaccination rates falling short of expectations.

Defining oligometastatic pancreatic cancer: a systematic review and critical synthesis of consensus

Summary: This study aims to explore the definition of oligometastatic disease (OMD) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and the use of local consolidative treatment (LCT). The findings reveal a lack of consensus on the definition of OMD in PDAC, with significant variation between studies and methodological issues. This highlights the need for a consensus definition of OMD.
