This study aimed to investigate the levels of willingness to use pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and intention to adhere to PrEP and to further explore factors associated with PrEP uptake among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. A total of 524 MSM were recruited from Chengdu, China. Half of the participants had heard of PrEP, and the awareness rate varied from 33.8%, 30.7%, and 7.1% for daily oral PrEP, on-demand PrEP, and long-acting injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP), respectively. The overall willingness to use any type of PrEP in the next six months was 84.9% if PrEP is effective and provided for free. Participants were less likely to say that they would use PrEP if they used a condom consistently with their regular partners. However, participants were more likely to say that they would use PrEP if they had casual partners in the past month and had higher HIV prevention literacy. The majority of participants intended to adhere to PrEP prescription. More than forty percent (43.1%) of the participants reported that they might reduce condom use if they took PrEP. We found that the overall willingness to use PrEP was high among MSM living in China, but willingness varied across the different types of PrEP.

Evaluation and Management After Acute Left-Sided Colonic Diverticulitis A Systematic Review

Ethan M. Balk, Gaelen P. Adam, Wangnan Cao, Shivani Mehta, Nishit Shah

Summary: The value of interventions used after acute colonic diverticulitis is unclear. Colonoscopy does not reduce the risk of long-term colorectal cancer diagnosis. Mesalamine is ineffective in preventing recurrence. Elective surgery reduces recurrence in patients with prior complicated or smoldering or frequently recurrent diverticulitis, but it is unclear which of these patients may benefit most.

Summary: Men who have sex with men (MSM) in China face a disproportionate HIV epidemic and have suboptimal medication adherence. An app-based case management service was developed to address this issue, with components including web-based communication, educational articles, supportive service information, and hospital visit reminders. The intervention was well-received, and delivering educational resources of interest may enhance medication adherence.

Evolving trends in drug overdose mortality in the USA from 2000 to 2020: an age-period-cohort analysis

Sayuri Fujita-Imazu, Jinzhao Xie, Bibha Dhungel, Xinran Wang, Yijing Wang, Phuong Nguyen, July Khin Maung Soe, Jinghua Li, Stuart Gilmour

Summary: The number of accidental drug overdose deaths in the USA has increased significantly in the past two decades, with a four-fold increase in age-standardized mortality rates. There has been a shifting burden of drug overdose mortality to younger Americans, particularly those born after 1990, and the highest mortality risk is found in Black Americans and those born after 1975. Urgent action is needed to prevent preventable deaths among a new generation of Americans.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the individual and joint associations of stool frequency and consistency with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. The results showed that less than 7 times/week of stool frequency is a significant risk factor for mortality. Additionally, irregular soft stools are associated with increased risks of all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular disease mortality, emphasizing the importance of bowel health.
