Personalized exercise prescription in the prevention and treatment of arterial hypertension: a Consensus Document from the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) and the ESC Council on Hypertension

Henner Hanssen, Henry Boardman, Arne Deiseroth, Trine Moholdt, Maria Simonenko, Nicolle Kraenkel, Josef Niebauer, Monica Tiberi, Ana Abreu, Erik Ekker Solberg, Linda Pescatello, Jana Brguljan, Antonio Coca, Paul Leeson

Summary: The treatment of hypertension and its complications is a major health care challenge, with personalized exercise prescription being proposed for better blood pressure control based on individual's initial BP level. More research is needed to further optimize lifestyle interventions for hypertension prevention and treatment.

Exercise intensity assessment and prescription in cardiovascular rehabilitation and beyond: why and how: a position statement from the Secondary Prevention and Rehabilitation Section of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology

Dominique Hansen, Ana Abreu, Marco Ambrosetti, Veronique Cornelissen, Andreas Gevaert, Hareld Kemps, Jari A. Laukkanen, Roberto Pedretti, Maria Simonenko, Matthias Wilhelm, Constantinos H. Davos, Wolfram Doehner, Marie-Christine Iliou, Nicolle Krankel, Heinz Voller, Massimo Piepoli

Summary: The proper determination of exercise intensity is crucial for the rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular disease, as it affects the effectiveness and safety of exercise training. Various organizations have published position statements on aerobic exercise intensity assessment and prescription in cardiovascular rehabilitation. Subsequent research has highlighted controversies and refinements in commonly applied concepts related to exercise intensity determination in cardiovascular rehabilitation.

The Prognostic Role of Polysomnography Parameters in Heart Failure Patients with Previous Decompensation

Elena Medvedeva, Lyudmila Korostovtseva, Mihail Bochkarev, Anastasiya Shumeiko, Aelita Berezina, Maria Simonenko, Yulia Sazonova, Andrey Kozlenok, Yurii Sviryaev

Summary: Sleep-disordered breathing can have a negative impact on the progression of chronic heart failure. In patients with previous decompensation, polysomnography parameters such as wake after sleep onset >40 min and sleep stage 2 (S-2) <44% are associated with a poor prognosis.
