Summary: As the demand for sensors increases with the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities applications, the cost of infrastructure and maintenance also increases, leading to performance degradation in communication and monitoring of connected devices. To address this, this paper proposes using machine learning models as virtual sensors to replace physical sensors. Through extensive research and simulation comparisons, the most accurate model can be selected. The paper also introduces a lightweight IoT platform running on a Raspberry Pi, equipped with both physical and virtual sensors. Evaluation results in a smart home scenario show promising applicability of the proposed methodology.

Summary: This study focuses on designing a low-profile frequency selective surface transmitarray antenna at 12 GHz using a four-layer Split Ring Resonator structure. The parametric analysis shows a high transmission coefficient magnitude and phase range. X-band horn antenna is used as a feed source, and each FSS layer consists of 121 elements. The measured results demonstrate a wide impedance bandwidth, high gain value, and 1-dB bandwidth.

Summary: This paper proposes two different types of metamaterial antennas for 5G mid-band frequency operation, based on a combined fractal structure on the radiating patch and MTM structures on the ground plane. The introduction of these structures not only enhances the overall bandwidth and gain of the antenna but also leads to antenna miniaturization. The proposed design shows a compactness improvement of 43% / 42% compared to conventional microstrip patch antennas.

It is a suitable option for high-capacity and interference-prone 5G Pico base stations in urban or suburban areas.

Summary: Miniaturized monopole planar antennas operating in the VHF/UHF band for Digital Video Broadcasting and mobile communication have gained research interest due to their low-profile, compact, and wideband nature. The proposed antenna in this paper is a rectangular patch with two large slots for wider bandwidth and better matching, with characteristics including operating frequency from 470 MHz to 900 MHz and about 63% bandwidth efficiency. The antenna shows potential for wide-area wireless communication in Africa as countries migrate to DVB-T2 and DVB-NGH space.
