Summary: This study investigates the properties of bio-based polymeric matrices obtained by crosslinking epoxidized linseed oil (ELO) with different activators. The results show that ELO_CA material, formed by using citric acid and THF as activators, exhibits higher thermal stability and glass transition temperature. Additionally, the crosslink density, storage modulus, mechanical properties, and water affinity of these materials are discussed.

Summary: This study investigates the modification of epoxy resin with polysulfone and active diluent furfuryl glycidyl ether. The results show that heterogeneous structures are formed during the curing process, depending on the concentration of the active diluent and the type of hardener. The physico-mechanical properties of the hybrid matrices are determined by the formed structures, with thermoplastic-enriched matrix-interpenetrating structures providing the highest resistance to crack propagation.

Summary: A series of multifunctional castor oil-based epoxy resins, including methoxy castor oil polyglycidyl ether (MOCOGE), allyloxy castor oil polyglycidyl ether (AOCOGE), and castor oil-based non-glycidyl ether (CONGE), were designed to broaden the application of bisphenol A epoxy resin E-51. The research showed that adding these castor oil-based epoxy resins significantly improved the flexibility, toughness, and mechanical strength of E-51. The tensile strength, elongation at break, and impact strength of E-51 increased when blended with the castor oil-based epoxy resins.

Summary: By optimizing the carbonation of epoxidized linseed oil containing CC5 groups, high conversion, carbonation, and selectivity values can be achieved. Higher temperature and pressure lead to increased conversion but decreased selectivity, while increasing catalyst concentration favors selectivity. The presence of a secondary mechanism involving the formation of a carboxylate ion was demonstrated through spectroscopic analysis.

Summary: This work presents a model biobased epoxy thermoset resin that incorporates epoxidized linseed oil fatty acid methyl esters (ELOMEs) and trimellitic anhydride (TMA) as a curing agent. The study investigates the effects of different molar ratios of ELOME and TMA on the storage moduli, glass-transition temperatures, and thermomechanical properties of the resulting thermosets. The results indicate that the concentration of the curing agent influences the crosslinking density and affects the formation of the cross-linked network, while the use of ELOME/ELO mixtures leads to an improvement in the thermomechanical properties due to the branched triacylglycerol structure of epoxidized linseed oil.

Summary: This study aims to improve the tribological properties of epoxy resins by combining self-lubrication and auto-healing. Linseed oil microcapsules with good thermal stability were successfully prepared and incorporated into the resin. The composite coating exhibited outstanding self-lubricating properties, reducing the coefficient of friction and wear rate. The formation of a uniform lubricating film and the release of linseed oil contributed to the improved wear resistance and prolonged the life of the coating.

Summary: In this study, two-component microcapsules were prepared using benzotriazole (BTA) and linseed oil as core material and poly(urea-formaldehyde) as shell material. The effects of stirring speed, temperature, emulsifier type and amount, core/shell mass ratio, and initial pH on the microcapsule structure and properties were investigated, and an optimum preparation process was determined. Graphene oxide (GO) was added to enhance the shell stability of the microcapsules, and the optimal GO content was determined through microscopic observation. The prepared microcapsules exhibited an encapsulation rate of 83.44%. The microcapsules were embedded into epoxy coating and their self-healing and anticorrosion performances were optimized through scratch test and salt spray test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The damaged graphene-based two-component self-healing coating showed an impedance modulus of 1.29 × 10(9) Ω·cm(2) after repair, which lasted for 24 hours.

Summary: This study focused on the development of flax and flax/basalt hybrid reinforced composites using epoxidized linseed oil resin, with different ratios of glutaric anhydride and maleinized linseed oil in the hardener system. The addition of glutaric anhydride resulted in hard and brittle laminates, while increasing MLO content led to a decrease in brittleness of the crosslinked resin. The thermal analysis showed shifts in glass transition temperatures and final degradation temperatures with varying MLO content.

Summary: The curing process of epoxy resin based on epoxidized linseed oil (ELO) was studied using dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to determine the kinetic triplet. It was found that the epoxy resins crosslinking is a multi-step process, but the curing kinetics can be simplified to a single-step process with a high proportion of autocatalytic process.

Summary: Dedifferentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) from a functional phenotype to an inverse synthetic phenotype is an important symptom of cardiovascular disorders. The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) plays a crucial role in regulating the differentiation and maintenance of VSMCs' contractile gene expression. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in this process are not well understood. This study used a novel in vitro co-culture method to investigate the effects of sympathetic neurons on VSMCs differentiation and found that sympathetic innervation promotes VSMCs' contractile gene expression and functional phenotype maintenance.

Summary: The addition of glycidoxy propyl POSS (GPOSS) nanoparticles and alumina microparticles into a two-part epoxy adhesive resulted in improved glass transition temperature (Tg), thermal stability, and adhesion strength. The dispersion of the fillers in the adhesive samples was characterized, showing weaker dispersion for highly loaded alumina and/or GPOSS filled compositions. DSC thermograms revealed lower heat of cure and higher onset cure temperatures in all compositions compared to neat epoxy resin.
