Green synthesis of silver chloride nanoparticles (AgCl NPs) using commercial yeast extract has been carried out. The physico-chemical characterizations of AgCl NPs were carried out by UV-visible spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR, HR-SEM equipped with EDAX and TEM. In vitro efficacy of anti-mycobacterial properties of AgCl NPs were determined by agar well diffusion and Luciferase Reporter Phage (LRP) assay were used against Mycobacteriumsmegmatis (MC(2)155) and Mycobacteriumtuberculosis H37Rv respectively. This shows that the AgCl NPs have potential anti-myobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv.

Hepato and renoprotective activity of Kappaphycus alvarezii ethanolic extract in cisplatin causes hepatic and kidney harm in Albino Wistar rats

Annamalai Natarajan, Radhakrishnan Prabakarakrishnan, Kasivelu Govindaraju, Vimal Sugumar, Kuppusamy Sathiskumar, Jayaraman Narenkumar, Aadhikesavan Ramanan, Balasubramanian Senthil Kumar

Summary: This study found that an ethanol extract of Kappaphycus alvarezii can effectively protect albino rats from cisplatin-induced hepato and nephrotoxicity. Cisplatin administration increased the levels of hepato-specific enzymes and lipid markers in rats, while the administration of K. alvarezii extract reduced these markers and improved histological architecture. The presence of nine distinct chemicals in the extract was confirmed by GC-MS analysis. Overall, the study suggests that K. alvarezii extract may protect albino rats against cisplatin-induced liver and kidney toxicity through its active chemicals.

K. E. Lawrence, R. G. Clark, H. Henderson, K. Govindaraju, C. Balcomb

Summary: This study aimed to compare the performance of two predictive models for the survival of downer cows. The original 1987 model, developed using a dataset with missing values, performed as well as the new model that utilized modern data imputation and analytical methods. The results showed that the original model had a slightly higher accuracy with specificities of 0.82 and sensitivities of 0.85, using a cut point for the probability of survival at 0.313.

Susceptibility of SARS Coronavirus-2 infection in domestic and wild animals: a systematic review

Sudhanarayani S. S. Rao, Krupakar Parthasarathy, Vignesh Sounderrajan, K. Neelagandan, Pradeep Anbazhagan, Vaishnavi Chandramouli

Summary: Animals and viruses have been co-evolving under natural circumstances and pandemic situations. They carry harmful coronaviruses that can easily spread. In recent times, we have witnessed pandemic-like situations caused by the spread of deadly viruses. There are four known genera of the coronavirus family, and animals have been infected by coronaviruses from all four genera. Severe acute respiratory syndromes like SARS CoV and MERS-CoV have emerged in the last few decades, and we are currently facing another pandemic situation due to the uncontrolled spread of SARSCoV-2. While these findings are based on a small number of animals and do not indicate human transmission, it has been discovered that several mammals can be naturally infected by the virus and can transmit the illness to other animals of the same species.

Biodeterioration of polyethylene by jellyfish nematocyst protein

S. Amreen Nisa, R. Vasantharaja, S. Supriya, D. Inbakandan, G. Dharani, K. Govindaraju

Summary: Plastic pollution is a major global problem that poses a serious threat to coastal and marine ecosystems. The accumulation of plastics in the aquatic environment due to human activities leads to disruptions in the functioning of the ecosystem. This study investigated the degradation ability of nematocyst protein extracted from lyophilized nematocyst samples using three different mediums. The results suggest that jellyfish nematocyst protein can biodeteriorate polyethylene without the need for external physicochemical processes, providing evidence for further research.
