Summary: The serum IGF-1/IGFBP-3 ratio is a useful marker for the diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency in children. Combining serum IGF-1, IGFBP-3, and the IGF-1/IGFBP-3 ratio can improve the specificity of the diagnosis.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and early diagnosis is crucial for improving survival rates. Current diagnostic methods have suboptimal accuracy, while new molecular noninvasive tests based on CRC alterations are more sensitive and specific. Identifying ideal diagnostic biomarkers remains a challenge.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the diagnostic value of six biomarkers in stool samples of patients with CRC, advanced adenomas, other lesions, and healthy individuals. Results showed that Hb and M2-PK levels were increased in CRC patients compared to controls, suggesting a potential as fecal diagnostic biomarkers for CRC detection.

Summary: This study aimed to screen candidate biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) using a novel strategy. The researchers identified 18 candidate biomarkers with efficient diagnostic value in CRC. FJX1 was identified as a prognostic biomarker that showed good performance in predicting overall survival in CRC patients. Furthermore, the concentration of FJX1 in serum was associated with distant metastasis in CRC. The study also found that FJX1 was significantly decreased in the serum after surgery in CRC patients. Compared to traditional CRC biomarkers, FJX1 still showed good efficiency in diagnosis and prognosis. Additionally, inhibition of FJX1 expression or neutralization of secreted FJX1 could suppress cell proliferation and migration in vitro. These findings provide a novel strategy for identifying diagnostic biomarkers and suggest that FJX1 is a candidate diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in CRC patients.

Summary: The study found that circulating levels of IGF-I and IGFBP-3 in breast cancer patients are significantly associated with recurrence-risk, while the correlation with IGFBP-7 levels is weaker. There is a significant interaction between IGFBP-7 levels and recurrence-risk in patients with IGF-IRm positivity.

Summary: This study provides evidence for the crucial involvement of inflammatory neutrophil-activated serine proteases (NSPs) in the dysregulation of the anti-inflammatory and antitumor IGFBP-3/IGFBP-3R signaling axis in colitis-associated colon cancer (CAC). Preclinical evidence is also provided for alpha 1-antitrypsin (AAT) as a preventive and therapeutic option for CAC.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is difficult to distinguish from other diseases, such as ulcerative colitis and colon polyps. Cytokines like IL-10, IL-17A, TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma, and TGF-beta have been suggested to be associated with CRC. This study found that the combination of serum CEA, IL-17A, and TNF-alpha achieved higher diagnostic efficacy for CRC.

Summary: The study evaluated the diagnostic value of detecting miR-15b, miR-16, miR-21, and miR-31 in exosomes for colorectal cancer. A diagnostic model containing miR-15b, miR-21, and miR-31 showed high sensitivity and specificity in discriminating healthy controls and colorectal cancer patients. The miR-15b, miR-16, and miR-21 panel also effectively differentiated colorectal adenoma patients from colorectal cancer patients.
